Remember to keep an eye on the "Recent posts by others" panel to because they won't appear on your news feed and often last minute smaller trips are advertised through that. We will try

to make regular admin posts to advertise trips and event that are coming up each week --- yes there are trips on EVERY week so start experiencing life now! The BEST way to see what's going on is still to come along to our club meetings. During university term we use AM106. During holidays we use the Welsh Dragon Pub at the eastern end of Courtney Place. It sits on the island in middle of Cambridge Tce (used to be public toilets). Then join us afterwards for the infamous Taco Tuesdays!! you can also check our Insta or FB stories on Tuesdays for meeting times and locations so give us a like and follow :)

Annual membership costs $20 for students and $30 for non-students. With this you get membership in the Federated Mountain of NZ (FMC) and a whole bunch of discounts at various shops, plus use of all club gear and access to club trips. We also have a website www.vuwtc.org.nz ~ It's fantastic for general info about tramping, gear and food as well as the trip calendar which shows the biggest trips planned for the term.

Ceilidh!! We had such an awesome time dancing with everyone! Tickets sold out, beer was flowing, everyone was sweating and dancing and there wasn’t a phone in sight!
Thankyou so much to everyone who joined of this spectacular night of revelry! It was a wonderful night of community. And a massive thanks for for making it possible! 💃🕺🪩🍻

Track maintenance!!
Our awesome team hiked into the Ōrongorongo Valley with an amazing DOC ranger. After a chill 2hr walk, they crossed the river and visited Raukawa Lodge and Jans Hut. Staying the night at Tūrere Lodge, they heard North Island brown kiwi!

Along the way, the helped with maintenance tasks like testing gas cookers and fire alarms, chopping firewood, reporting fallen trees, and removing rubbish. They split into groups and communicated using walkie talkies!

Girls trip!! A very whimsical and wild walk to Waitewaewae hut!
We had a blast on the first girls only trip on the second week of the break!! 7 good keen girls headed to Waitewaewae hut from Otaki Forks for two nights with a lovely hut day in between.

Come dance, drink and celebrate with us!

VUWTC is hosting a ceilidh, a traditional Scottish dance event! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
Welcome to non club members and those with no dancing experience, come have fun!
On the 8th may 7:30pm hunter lounge on the VUW Kelburn campus
Tickets are $24 and include pizza! There will also be a bar available for purchasing drinks.
Dress will be semi formal so wear something snazzy that you can comfortably dance in!!

TRAMPS TRAMPS TRAMPS!!! Our annual house party was a huge hit this year, shoutout to the legends who hosted it and everyone who came!! Awesome turn out of costumes in your interpretation of the word “tramp”! 💃🕺💃🕺

It was a social time at Cone and Tutuwai huts! Tutuwai’s 20 bunks were tested by 11 VUWTC trampers, a 12 college students and a family of 5, but we made it work!

Along the way we cleaned up the huts and tracks, got beautiful views of the night sky, and saw a rescue chopper fly around with its search lights 🚁

105 years of the tramping club!
We decided to honour our founding adventurers this year with a summit of Mt Ruapehu dressed how the club founders would’ve (No claims of historical accuracy 😉)

This served as our committee trip for the year! We spent the weekend getting to know each other better and planning trips to come!!

Meet us! (And our weaknesses 👹)

Key:
President: in charge of club admin and organising.

Chief guides: organises and oversees the trips and calendar.

Secretary: in charge of memberships and correspondence of the club.

Treasurers: manages club finances, trip payments, refunds etc.

Climbing officer: organises all rock climbing trips and training.

Social Convenors: organise club events.

Conservation officers: act on behalf of the club on environmental and conservation issues.

Gear custodians: run and maintain the gear shed, manage borrowing of gear (follow and dm them any queries)

Publicity officers: Run this account! And all of our social media. In charge of publicising the club and making sure everyone sees what epic stuff you’re up to.

Hut maintenance officer: organises maintenance of huts and tracks, club representative for GWBN and DOC.

Heels officer: in charge of creating our annual club magazine.

The blue range hut trip 💙 back from dec 4th to dec 5th, where we did some cleaning up for FMC, had a 650m gain, played a dutch card game, and saw the hut’s beautiful blue brushstrokes of paint contrast with the surrounding scenery on a hot sunny day.

We had a great weekend exploring the beautiful Taranaki Maunga. In great company, we stayed at Kahui and Waiaua Gorge huts.

We cleaned the hut and tracks for FMC’s Love our Huts volunteer campaign. We wiped the surfaces, washed the windows, trimmed vines and overgrown bushes, and topped up emergency supplies. Anything you can do to care for our backcountry network makes a difference!
