Turas Consulting & Coaching

Turas Consulting & Coaching Leadership architecture for organisations building leadership that holds under pressure, expands what becomes possible and creates lasting impact.

Turas is the strategic home of True North Leadership Architecture™. Founded by Lindsey Brittain, Turas exists to help organisations build leadership that holds under pressure, expands what becomes possible and creates lasting impact. What makes this different is that True North starts with identity as the anchor, integrates identity, strategy and resilience, and helps embed that alignment into leadership, culture, decisions and systems so leadership change lasts.

Lately I’ve been noticing the same pattern.
In leaders.
In teams.
In businesses.
In organisations.

Nothing dramatic. Just the feeling that something no longer feels quite right:

👉The noise and pressure of every day takes over and feels rushed. You feel drained and burnt out.
👉Decisions get harder, take longer and are reactive.
👉The pressure to perform creates this mask - the need to live and lead according to other people’s expectations, not yours.
👉You hold it all together on the outside yet feel disconnected and lost on the inside.

That’s what I call drift - when you drift away from who you are, where you want to head and the impact only you can create.

This week, one of our Inner Circle members, Sarah, reminded me what the opposite can look like.

She didn’t try to lead like anyone else.
She simply led in a way that was unmistakably her - from her True North.
And the result? An extraordinary impact on us all.

It made me realise how quietly drift can happen.
One compromise.
One expectation.
One decision at a time.
Until something simply doesn’t feel like you anymore.

I’ve started calling that pattern drift.

When you hear the word drift, what comes to mind?
Not the definition.
The feeling.
The experience.

I think I've found a word for something I've been seeing more and more.

Drift.

Last week it showed up again.
Not because something had gone wrong.
But because something had quietly changed.

One of our True North Inner Circle members, Sarah, designed and led the entire session herself.

She didn't try to lead like anyone else.
She simply led in a way that was unmistakably her own - her own version of extraordinary.

Watching her reminded me how quietly the opposite can happen too.

1. Leaders stop trusting their own judgement.

2. Teams lose connection.

3. Businesses no longer feel like the reason they were started.

4. Organisations keep moving, but something feels increasingly off.

I've started calling that pattern drift.
Not because something suddenly breaks.
It happens quietly.
Until one day, something simply doesn't feel like you anymore.

I changed my job title without changing my identity.

Turas means journey in Scottish Gaelic. I named the business that three years ago, before I had any real idea how much of one it would turn out to be. It's been a helluva journey.

Next week I'll be talking about it live at Dean Graziosi's Build It Bootcamp - from where I started to what I'm building now.

Because here's what actually happened. I left a 26 year corporate career completely depleted, made the leap to entrepreneur, and then discovered I'd changed the title on the door without changing anything underneath it. I had the craft. I didn't have the identity yet.

Coaching provider, then leadership architect, and now building something considerably bigger than either. Every stage came back to the same thing. Get clear on who you are and everything else can align behind it. Lose sight of it and it won't matter how good the strategy is.

That's the belief the whole business rests on. Everyone has their own version of extraordinary to give, and it's grounded in who you are but the noise and the pressure can make you drift from it.

If you're building something and it doesn't quite feel like yours anymore, that isn't a personal failing. It's drift. And it's recoverable. I'm living proof...

More soon.

This made me smile today…but on a more serious note, sometimes we let stress become the cloak we wear. It’s heavy, uncomfortable, distracting.

Yes, our world is faster, noisier, more pressured, more uncertain. And yes, it’s easy to react to every aspect of that swirl, become stressed, overwhelmed and drift.

Drift away from who you are and the impact you want to create as a leader, as an organisation, as a business. Drift away from the one thing you’re certain about.

Pause. Ask yourself ‘am I drifting away from who I am and diluting the impact I want? If it’s a yes, take a moment to recognise that, don’t reprimand yourself but focus more on anchoring yourself back into what really matter.

Who you are. The impact you want to create. Your version of extraordinary.

Today, decide that stress doesn’t go with your outfit. Time to throw off the cloak…

It turns out you can be a world away and still feel like someone’s right beside you.

There’s a particular quiet that comes with living far from home. Most days it sits in the background. Then a season lands where a lot arrives at once, and suddenly you feel every mile between here and there.

I’m in one of those seasons.

And then this week, a knock at the door. Flowers, from my auntie, all the way from Scotland.

She’s been there my whole life. Sat up with me through university at the kitchen table into the small hours. She’s where I get my balshiness from. Her sight is failing her now, and it hasn’t stopped her for a second, still tracing the Mackenzie clan by hand, still doing what she loves. That’s who she is. That doesn’t change because it gets hard.

Scotland is the place that made me. So those flowers weren’t just flowers. A piece of home walked straight into my living room.

And it hasn’t only been her. My parents calling to check in. Friends across every time zone reaching in. And home itself, Andy and the kids, just being here. That’s the part I don’t have big words for. It’s precious, and I know it.

None of it came from pity. It came to say, I know this is tough, and I’m here. Recognition, without the pity party. And that is fuel.

👉So here’s your nudge. Someone came to mind while you read this. Tell them. Send the flowers, make the call, write the message.

It travels further than you know. 🌍❤️

The biggest risk in leading in volatile times isn’t resistance. IT’S DRIFT.

We’re all not waiting for a sign.
We’re already moving.

The question is;
are we moving toward what matters most…
or quietly drifting away from it?

As leaders.
As business owners.
As organisations.

Pressure doesn’t create drift.
It reveals it.

And when pressure builds, everything becomes visible.
Habits. Assumptions. Gaps in alignment.

Without an anchor, priorities blur.
Decisions get reactive.
Culture starts to fragment.

Resilience stops being built and starts being expected of individuals.

But readiness isn’t something we wait for.
It’s something we design.

It’s the leadership conditions - the architecture - that holds under pressure, expands what’s possible and creates impact that lasts.

Don’t wait. Design for drift - to see it and bring yourself, your business or your organisation back to your centre.

👉Share this with someone you know who’s experiencing drift and needs to hear this.
