First impressions, can't get over how good the climbing is, the oval ring is the best kept secret in the mtb world.

The DH is also insane. The bike demands more speed and gives the rider so much confidence.

Once I upgrade the brakes and handlebars (s***k vibrocore) this will be an unstoppable machine.

What recovery strategies do you have in place to avoid injury/ promote recovery?

I personally prefer massage, needles and cupping (in that order)

After a week away to reflect on the north islands, I wanted to post my personal favorite lifts from each athlete and a reason why they were great

105kg clean and jerk. After a 3/3 in the sn**ch and a PB, he missed the first 2 clean and jerks. We made a decision to go for a do or die attempt at a PB (he failed 105 clean two weeks before) and absolutely smoked it. Huge PB total for Phil and considering he has only been lifting properly for under 6 months, its been great progress

62kg sn**ch. The week leading up to north islands wasn't the best for Han. To the point where she almost pulled out. But this comp went so well. 4/6 and this attempt at a new PB showed how gutsy she is. After a solid 58kg sn**ch, we decided to try for a new PB and put pressure on the other lifter. Such a great effort to get this close to 62kg. We called that a training make 🤣

92kg sn**ch. Seems like he has been able to hit this weight forever but everytime we go above 90 in comp he gets called for a small press out. Was great to see him get over the hump with 3 ⚪⚪⚪ and there is defo more in the tank. He also hit a PB 117 c&j for ⚪⚪⚪ and even a 121 but was called for the press out. Super excited to see what Rob hits in the next few months as I feel we have gone into a new gear.
dombo went 3/3 in the sn**ch with a new PB of 116kg but my favourite lift was the 150kg c&j. I've seen Ethan hit this many times in the gym but he hasn't quite manged to get it on the platform. But third time is a charm. This was ethans best comp to date with 5/6 (only missed a 140 clean due to over pulling). It's all heading in the right direction and hopefully he can join the 96 big boys at nationals. He took 1st in the 96 juniors

(me) my personal performance was good. The 120 sn**ch is my favorite lift because it's the easiest I've made 120 look, and I haven't hit it in 9 months plus. The clean and jerks went ok and my jerk is definitely improving, I just went enough to solidify my position.

Overall it was a great comp for all SCS lifters. Great to get some new lifters on the platform and great to see awesome performances from returning ones.

This is a great time for me to reflect over the past few weeks and how well the awesome athletes from performed at the north island championships.

I will be posting more on this next week. But right now it's time to ride and relax.

A Powerlifter and a Mountain Biker walk into the gym... Sounds like the start of a joke. But in reality they are doing one of the best exercises for any sport.

Bulgarian split squats. Perfect for single leg development. Can be used to fix a weakness or to develop single leg strength. Perfect lifting accessory for any sport.
