We have shotgun activity now at the range! The first birds have been thrown and destroyed! The Seadown Sporting Clay range will be operating from 9.30am most Saturdays so come out for a look or a shot. If you have a shotgun and ear & eye protection bring it out. We have targets a plenty and steel ammunition is available. Prices are reasonable. Lead shot ammunition is NOT permitted. We are setting easier targets for novice shooters to begin with - but we can set targets for those wanting a challenge if you think your up to it. See you there!

Done. The task fo raking the stones off the floor of the shotgun range has been completed. With the grass seed drilled in last weekend and the 19mm of rain this past week we are expecting it to germiante very soon and come up to football pitch standard..if not a bowling green! We are all looking now for that first blade of grass to peek through..

Work is still in progress on the shotgun range. The wooden retaining walls are complete and this coming week the fencing will be finished and gates hung! We have sown grass seed on the range floor just a few days before 15mm of rain fell earlier this week so that was perfect timing. Now we just wait for it to turn green and then we start mowing! We are working towards a completion date of the 31st October then it's a wait for the certificaton to come through from the FSA. We can't wait to start breaking clays...

JM is on the range! It was great to have a visit by our local National Party candidate James Meager to the range this week and it's nice to see him out & about rubbing sholders with the folks in the constituancy...and more so the shooting sports fraternity and it's not for the first time either! Well done. That gets a big tick.

Looks like you have that Red dot clearly in your sights! Welcome back any time..

Needing a bit of rough! Well it's hard work trying to scratch up the shotgun range floor yesterday in preparation to hopefully sow it in grass in a few weeks time. It's been so dry and hard yesterday it looks like heavier equipment will be required to break the surface. Now today we have some well overdue rain falling so this might help the whole situation..

Eventually it will look like a bowling green! Yeah right..

Work is underway on the Shotgun range thanks to a very dedicated volunteer. The range will host the shotgun sporting clays so will have a number of clay target traps dotted around the perimeter boundry and they will be fired in various sequences up high & down low left to right and visa versa. It's not going to be your typical DTL gun club targets but Compak - 5 Stand Sporting targets catering for different skill levels. It's planned to host novice - corporate type groups. A club has been established Seadown Sporting Clays that will give a more competitive shooting enviroment for those hardcore sporting shooters! It'll be great to have this available nearby in Timaru.

Right now the main work is putting in the posts rails & gates which will be the shooting area and viewing area. Shooting with take place at ground level but in addition their will be elevated shooting positions on the earth bunds behind the ground level area.

Their are plenty of ideas how to make the shooting very interesting! Who said it's going to be easy? Fire away..

Time for an update. Bit happened since June but not as much as all the earthworks that happened earlier in the year. We have undertaken some smaller jobs to make the ranges more accessable in adverse weather so we have formed carparks and done some work on the access road in to raise it up and put in some pipes to drain away water pooling on the western pond side which was causing the road to pothole and get pretty rough in places. We are expecting futher roading material to come in during the spring/summer period as a result of local roading projects so we'll continue to imporove the accress road and carpark areas over time.

A crew have done some renovations inside the pistol range HQ building to weather proof the south side and install a window. It's satisfactory for what's required at the moment but over time it'll be spruced up when time money and labour permits.

Last weekend a team of handy persons knocked up the basic frame work of the firing line shooting house which is situated at the north end of the 100m Handloaders range. This is a 3 bay structure and has to be compeleted as soon as possible since it has to be in place for range certification. It's now bolted down but just just needs a team of highly skilled volunteers to clad it with tin and finish off. It should all be done by mid October is the plan..is the plan they say..

On the main 100m rifle range the range floor is being worked up and levelled out in preparation for sowing grass in the next month or so. We'll need some rain too! The concrete block shooting stands are soon to be built...just looking for a highly skilled volunteer blockie to do that job so if anyone has the tools skills and some time we can get that box ticked. This needs to be compeleted before FSA certification too. A firing line shooting house/shelter is planned for the main rifle 100m range but it's not an absolute requirement for certification purposes at the moment. It'll come in time. If you want to shoot when it's raining you might get wet! It's an outdoor sport remember..

The Fun House pistol range has been lengthened by around some 5 meters and is now in the process of being re-certified so it's in the hands of the FSA people to do their stuff and give the pistol boys approval to use that range once more.

Range safety signage is about to be upgraded and flag poles installed to meet FSA certification requirements over the next few weeks.

Things are progressing and now with longer days we hope to get more work done and more people out to the range for the summer.

Look what arrived last night..the new Pistol section HQ. We managed to souce locally a suitable building and bring it on site last evening. Over the coming weeks it will be transformed and tidied up and maybe even get a lick of paint. This building is intended for the sole use by the pistol section members for shoot administration and a place to gather and get ready if the weather is a little unfavorable to be standing out in the car park. Again the 360 Crane crew were on site early this morning to swing the building into place. Another box ticked and job well done!
