Great racing today at the 2026 New Zealand National Cross Country Ski Championships held at Snow Farm NZ

The event was well attended despite the hard (rumoured to be FIS standard) course and poor weather. We'd be exaggerating to call the 7.5km Classic Race a spectator favourite as it was held in thick fog, but once everyone re-emerged from the mist some impressive performances were revealed.

The follow up 7.5km Skate Pursuit gave us a better view of the action. A few places were taken and the 2026 Champions were crowned!

Next Saturday the club is hosting the New Zealand National Championships.

Open to all (only NZ Permanent Residents eligible for national titles) the championships will consist of a 7.5 km Classic Race at 10 am, followed by a 7.5 km Skate Pursuit at 12 noon.

Heads up from Snow Farm NZ everyone - tonight Kirtle Burn and Top Beat will be groomed, giving us a chance to head out on a Tour de Kirtle Burn tomorrow!

Today we held the Farm Ski race in memory of a friend to many in the Wanaka outdoor community, Andrew Sloan. Andrew's passion, grit and humour inspired so many. Let his enthusiasm for life live on forever.

Club Champs 2026

What a day for a Skiathlon! Great tracks, great turnout and great effort all round. Congratulations to our new 2026 Club Champs.

Coming up this Saturday (25 July) is the Club Championships!

The club championships will be held under a different format this year. Instead of a classic race followed some time later by a separate skate race this year there will be a combined Skiathlon race as seen at the Olympics.

The race starts with a classic lap then a transition area to change skis then a skate lap to the finish. Never fear if you only have one set of skis you can complete the race by classicing both laps or if you’re on skate gear you can double pole the first lap (no skating allowed) then skate the last lap. This is sure to be a fun event so get along on Saturday and sign up for something a bit different.

Race starts at 11am - enter at Snow Farm up until 10:40.

Coming this Saturday 25 July.

The Club Champs - SKIATHLON!

For the first time in WNSC history* this year's Club Championships will be contested in the form of a Skiathlon.

That's right, we will all start with classic skis, ski the a 3km lap and then switch to skating skis to ski the second and final 3km lap.
Why? Why not!

*WNSC records show no evidence of a Skiathlon. Ever.
