Media release

The Tasman District Council's decision to pause and defer the Wakefield Hub Project until the Long Term Plan deliberations later in the year is extremely disappointing for the Wakefield community.
Council’s decision does not change the fact that Wakefield urgently needs a fit-for-purpose community facility. Neither does it change the reality that Wakefield is long overdue for Council investment.
Community engagement and fundraising clearly endorse the need for the hub.
The Wakefield Hub Steering Committee, Wakefield Community Council and our local partners will continue to work with Council staff and elected members to move the project forward. We assure the community that this project is still very much alive and we are confident that whilst the decision to ‘pause and defer’ obviously affects the project timeframe, it does not change our passion and drive to make the Wakefield Community Hub a reality.
