What we heard at our Saturday Drop In session about the proposed future hub options:

We've heard a range of views, but a common theme is that the hub must meet the needs of all in the community; sports, recreation, social, arts etc. A new building on the current hall site could serve some of these, but the general feeling at the meetings was that if we accept this we need a second building to cater for sports/fitness activities. Many would still prefer a single building that meets all needs, while recognising the challenge of trying to get this option in the current climate.

You can still give your Steering Committee a steer. Please take this quick survey.

📣Your Steering Committee needs a steer 📢💡

Recently, the Wakefield Community Hub Project Advisory Group (PAG) has been considering several options for our future community hub.

The previously preferred option of a single entity hub on the Wakefield Reserve near the existing football grounds, is now just one of a few ideas.

The steering committee urgently needs your feedback on the proposed future hub options so we can accurately represent the community’s wishes in the planning process before the end of August.

Wonder what's in store for our upcoming Antarctica experience in Wakefield June 26th? Let's see what others had to say... And don't forget to book. https://www.waimeasouth.org.nz/events/

A capacity audience enjoyed Roger Lusby’s enthralling two-hour presentation of “40 Years Below” at the Mapua Boat Club on Thursday May 14.
Featuring photographs, stories, original songs, poems and plenty of humour, it was Roger’s reflection of his time wintering over at Scott Base, Antarctica, as a base mechanic as part of DSIR Antarctica program from 1969-70.
His storytelling, singing and poems brought to life for the audience, that year of extraordinary isolation, brutal conditions, and rare beauty.
Roger also wove Ernest Shackleton’s story of incredible survival and courage into this one-man show.
