Taranaki Dragons

Taranaki Dragons Taranaki's only Dragon Boat Club. We paddle twice a week on the Waitara River in summer (time is tide dependant) Contact us for weekly paddle times.

We are a proud, positive and a motivated group who are committed to leading full and active lives. We aim to promote awareness of breast cancer and survivorship, offer support, make new friendships, increase fitness, and have a lot of fun along the way. Practices are on Sundays and Wednesdays in the summer months and once a week 'til it gets too cold (times depend on the tides). Meet at the Waitar

a Yacht Club, West Beach, Waitara. We welcome all returning and new paddlers, as well as potential sweeps and drummers. We are always looking to welcome new members. We welcome women, men, breast cancer survivors - anyone enthusiastic and keen to try their hand at paddling, sweeping or drumming.

Another beautiful day in the Naki and we couldn't have asked for better weather to farewell our cheeky Chilean, Miguel.💙

Miguel, you have become an important member on our team and we are so sad that you are leaving. We will miss the laughs, the strength you bring to our boat, the mischeviousness and definately the hugs, but we all wish you the best on your new farming adventure in Thames.

We hope the 'moove' goes well and that you 'milk' the rewards that your new position will offer. You will 'udderly' rock it! But, you'd 'butter' come back and see us when you can, as you have become legen'dairy' in these parts😉
Just remember, its not goodbye, but see you later...there is always a seat in our boat for you!
Love from your Taranaki Dragon teamates💙

As we pause to remember our fallen soldiers, let us also remember the war animals lost in battle alongside them. Some with collars, some with harnesses, some with feathers.
Lest we forget💜❤

Today we held our final farewell to our Pocket Rocket Karen Hay with a beautiful flower ceremony, albeit rather wet. We were privileged to have Karen's husband Max, some of their family and also their friends come and be amongst her Dragon Boat Family, on such a special day💙 The weather certainly didn't play ball and we were all so disappointed that the conditions meant we weren't able to get the boats onto the water😔 But, in true 'organised' Karen style, we had a plan B and C..we shared some words in the clubhouse along with some laughs, stories and Kai and even though it wasnt a 'typical' flower ceremony, it was certainly unique and we were still able to honour her by casting our flowers onto our awa/lagoon.🌺🌸🌹. Today was a day we're sure would have made her very proud...and probably laugh into her coffee, when some of us had to bail the water out of the boat and dry it off before going back into the boat shed...not bad seeing as though it hadn't actually got onto the water 😳😊

We miss you beautiful lady💙🦋
