A little taste of what’s been rolling through the gates at Waitangi lately… bikes, bikes and more bikes! 🙌 A steady stream of happy riders 🚵‍♀️🚵🚵‍♂️ big ones and little ones! All out there enjoying the winter conditions. And Spring is just around the corner! Yahoo!

The crew have been getting stuck in all over the place this week. Tread repairs, cutting out pesky roots, fixing ruts and keeping the trails in great shape. TUATARA, BON APPETIT, TE RANGI HONONGA and HOOKIO all had a dose of love. 💪🌲

Yesterday was a little hideous out there 🌧️,… but Sunday is THE day! And after being cooped up on Saturday, you’ll be gagging for it by now! 😆

OOSHIE YOUR RIDE! 🚲🤩

One of our regulars, the clever ANDY COGAR, has been busy turning Ooshies into Schrader valve caps - those little caps that screw onto the valves on many kids’ bike tyres - the look awesome spinning round on your wheel and they’re a pretty cool way to add a bit of personality to your bike.

We’ve got a whole gang of them hanging out at the Waitangi Mountain Bike Park Info Office, looking for some wheels to call home.

Pop in, pick your favourite and Ooshie your ride. 🚲✨

The park is absolutely PRIMO right now. 🔥
The crew has been EVERYWHERE this week. 👊🌲

After last week’s heavy rain, we’ve been across every trail in the park. Clearing debris, cleaning up slips and slumps, clearing drains and getting everything running sweet as once again.

And sometimes, when you don’t have a shovel… you improvise. 😂🖐️🖐️🥾🥾👊

A full week of sunshine has worked its magic, MOKOPUNA is OPEN, and we reckon you’d be hard pressed to find more than two puddles across the entire 50+ km of singletrack. Spring is definitely starting to show its face. ☀️🌿🚵

The weekends have been pumping too! Families, kids, birthday crews and plenty of happy riders making the most of it. PEKENUI Jump & Skills Park was humming last weekend with a crew of riders coming up from Auckland to give it a jam, and a big shout-out to Carter and his whānau from Whangārei, who chose Waitangi to celebrate his birthday. 🎂🤘

🚧 ZONE 5 CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE 🚧

Unfortunately, forestry harvest operations have advanced sooner than anticipated, and harvesting is now taking place in the area surrounding ATAWHAI, our uphill climb out of Zone 5.

As ATAWHAI provides the only climb out of the Zone 5 trails, we need to close the entire zone until further notice while these operations are underway.

We’re hoping to get ATAWHAI back in action as soon as it’s safe to do so. And there is some good news to look forward to… AOTEAROA is nearly complete! 🙌 Once we can get that uphill access reopened, you’ll finally be able to get in there and check out the rebuild.

In the meantime, please obey all closure signage and stay completely out of Zone 5 and the active harvest area. There will be heavy machinery operating and closures are there for everyone’s safety.

We’ll keep you posted and get Zone 5 back open as soon as we possibly can. 🚵‍♀️🌲

🌧️ Rain’s gone. Blue skies are back. Time to grab the bike! 🚵‍♀️☀️

It’s going to be a little soggy out there today — but that just means some seriously good splash spots to blast through💦😆

Get out of the house, get some fresh air in the lungs, a bit of mud on the legs and enjoy some winter riding at Waitangi. The trails are calling! 🌲🚵

MOKOPUNA is CLOSED today — she’s a little soft after the rain over the past few days, so we’re giving that fresh surface a chance to dry out.

But the rest of the park is open and waiting for you! Blue skies overhead, plenty of dirt under the tyres and a whole lot of fun to be had.

And don’t forget to pop into the office, say hi to Tiff and grab your FREE Waitangi Mountain Bike Park sticker — your car will look way cooler with one! 😎🚗

Always a great day out for the whole family at Waitangi Mountain Bike Park - with a couple of feathered locals popping in last weekend to see what all the fuss is about! AND the sun's coming this weekend! YeeeassI So get out here folks and make use of this magnificent resource!

🚵‍♀️❄️ Winter riding is alive and well at Waitangi Mountain Bike Park! 💙

Well over 100 smiling faces hit the trails last weekend, with riders joining us from Waitangi, Paihia, Haruru, Ōpua, Kerikeri, Whangārei, Kaitaia, Kaeo, Auckland, Christchurch, and even Adelaide, Belgium and Colorado! 🌏

A huge thanks to Jess for hosting another fantastic Waitangi Wāhine Ride, and to "Chad the Dad" for leading the kids' ride. We managed to round up some of the parents for a photo... but the kids all scarpered as soon as a group shot was mentioned! 😂

And the good news keeps coming... this weekend is shaping up beautifully, with blue skies, cool crisp days, and those consistent winds doing a fantastic job of drying out the trails all week. 👌

🤞 If all goes to plan, we may even be able to reopen a fantastically refurbed MOKOPUNA this weekend... watch this space for an update later in the week!

So don't be hibernating because it's winter, now's the time to get out on yer bike! Mountain biking is one of the best ways to beat the winter chill – get the heart pumping, warm up the body, and soak up some fresh Northland sunshine.
