The Wednesday Ladies 2025 golf season finished on a high.
Our prizegiving started with a Linedancing lesson....definitely some hidden talent there! Quiz master Lyn then tried to get our grey matter working with a fun quiz.
We tucked into a lovely catered lunch with bubbly on tap.
This year we have just played 9H competitions on the Wednesdays. It has worked well. We may not have the big numbers but we do have a loyal turnout on Wednesdays There is some great golf played, and importantly a good few laughs.
We fielded a 9 H Pennants amalgamating with Waipukurau and some of our 18 H girls joined with other clubs to play team events

Getting ready to start the final day of the Waipawa Open for 2025!

Two hard fought victories yesterday sees 2024 Champion Luke Herrick back into the final, this year against the equally impressive Dean Gray also from the Hawkes Bay Golf Club

In the battle for 3rd and fourth there's a rematch of our Senior Club Champs Semi Final, can Mark Andrews overcome Simon Whelpton for the second time thus season?

In the Patangata Cup we have David Swanepoel up against Darrin Sullivan in what should be a great match up.

Thanks to all of the competitors that turned out and to the Hastings Golf Centre for helping us put the event on again in 2025!

To the golfer that played at our course this week, that liked our wood splitter so much that they came back and "borrowed" it last night, we'd really like it back!

We're only a small club and rely on the donations we receive for our Firewood to help continue to be a hub for the Waipawa Golf community and help keep our green fees as cheap as we can so the public can enjoy a day out on the course - at $20 for 18 holes we're the cheapest in CHB.

If you could return it as soon as possible, that would be greatly appreciated, we'd rather the police didn't have to go looking for it.

The one below is a similar model to ours but ours is black and pretty beat up, but like most of our volunteers age is just a number and we'd like the old girl back.

If anyone saw a wood splitter roaming around hawkes bay last night with no tail lights and a wonky number plate please get in touch.

Cheers.

The weather was certainly not what we had hoped for for the Waipawa Ladies Tournament. However we still had an amazing turnout considering most of you travelled from up the Bay. We certainly appreciated your support. Well done to 9 Yr old Emmerson who wowed us with her abilities and also picked up a prize.
As with every tournament we can't do it without our Sponsors and "helpers" so a big shout out to them......and to Euan who made our unique bird trophies.

Just a reminder our annual match against Karamu is this Saturday at the Karamu Golf Club (Golflands) tee off is 11am and everybody is welcome - they'll have a great mix of members so it would be great to see some of our ladies there as well.

Last weekend we had our third round of pennants against Onga Onga Golf Club at the Napier Golf Club - unfortunately we went down 5 - 4 with 2 matches lost on the last hole.

Again Mark Andrews was the star, thumping our good mate Dougal MacDonald 7 & 6. Always great playing against another central team and hopefully we meet again in the final with Onga now on 6 points and Waipawa on 4 but with most games won.

This Sunday is the second round of the men's Te Roopu Arohanui (Gross), the Aramutu Tray (Nett) competition, the highly prized Hilda Angus Putting Cup and Club Champs Qualifying. Tee off is 10am

Hope you've all had a good week and we can catch up over the weekend 👍👍

Congratulations to our Mens H4 Pennants team for a solid 8.5 - 0.5 win over Maraenui Golf Club home at Waipawa yesterday! Shout out to Mark Andrews for not losing a hole on route to an 8 & 7 win!

Other results were

Onga Onga Golf Club 6 - 3 Hawkes Bay Golf Club
Dannevirke Golf Club 8 - 1 Napier Golf Club

Next round is Sunday March 23rd where we face fellow unbeaten side Ongaonga at Napier Golf Club

Are you looking for something to do during these school holidays? Did you know that the Waipawa Golf Course has the only dedicated short course in Central Hawke's Bay? The Purple Course is perfect for beginners or those wanting to play a quick 9 (or 18) after work. The course measures a mere 2965 metres while following the same layout as the Blue Course for those wanting more of a challenge of the longer tees, allowing the whole family to enjoy a round together. The Par 3's have a maximum distance of 100m, while Par 4's max out at 200m, and the longest hole is a 255m Par 5. The best thing about the Purple Course is that it is rated to allow golfers of all abilities the chance to contribute a card to their handicap. Waipawa Golf Club memberships are free for Primary school-aged children and $20 for College students; there are also special rates for those who play with a member. Thank you to Gifford Devine for sponsoring the Purple Course cards. Just look for the purple blocks and posts on each hole. See you out there!
