Ulalei Wainuiomata Netball Club enjoyed a competitive and rewarding weekend at the Walter Nash Netball courts with several teams producing standout performances.
In the Premier 1 grade, Ulalei Mฤlili (HEDZ Hair Salon) proved too strong for Maidstone, leading from start to finish in a composed 44โ38 victory. The win not only secured valuable points but also denied Maidstone a crucial bonus point. Mฤlili now sit in third place on the ladder and continue to build momentum as the competition unfolds.
In the other Premier 1 game Ulalei Aute (TIME Insurance) was involved in one of the weekendโs most exciting encounters narrowly going down to St Orans Club by a single goal 43-42. After trailing by five goals heading into the final quarter Aute mounted a determined comeback but fell short by one goal in a nail-biting finish.
Ulalei Puฤlulu celebrated their first win of the sea*on with a hard-fought 29โ28 victory over Naenae Collegians. Building on last weekโs draw Puฤlulu showed patience and determination, overturning a 14โ11 halftime deficit to claim the win. The teamโs steady improvement signals a promising trajectory as the sea*on progresses.
There was plenty to celebrate for Ulalei Matalafi who also recorded their first victory of the sea*on with a convincing 25โ15 win against Tautoko Aiga. The defensive duo of Fuli Patea and Akeyla Nyanduga were instrumental, consistently picking off intercepts and securing rebounds. Their efforts provided the perfect platform for the shooting combination of mother and daughter, Matie Whitman and shooting sensation Isabella Peniata, who converted these opportunities for their team.
In other results across the competition Ulalei Ifilele (Nuku Ora) edged High School Old Girls 33โ31 in a close contest, while Ulalei Mosoโoi proved too strong for Tautoko Aiga with a 30โ19 win. Ulalei Lagaโali secured a 32โ28 victory over Petone Panthers and Ulalei Nonu delivered an emphatic 29โ14 performance against Te Rito.
Although not all results went their way Ulalei Wainui J7s, Ulalei Fuesina (Nuku Ora) and Ulalei Teuila were all involved in tight matches, suffering narrow losses. Meanwhile, Ulalei Puataunofo (Muzzy Shirts) faced a strong Wellington Menโs team and showed glimpses of brilliance on both attack and defence. If they can string these together into a full 60 minute performance, they have the potential to be a formidable force in the competition.
