Waimate Premier teams are on the road again but have been upgraded from Fraser Park No 2 to No 1 for their matches with top of the table in Premier Celtic on Saturday. The Reserves should be able to challenge the mid table Celtic reserves if they keep their momentum going, but as always injuries and unavilability will no doubt affect the make-up of both our sides.

A big thanks to Stephanie Simmons and Gus for their continued support of Waimate Rugby, we certainly appreciate your support. πŸ‘

A tough day at the office today for both Waimate sides losing to Harlequins at Fraser Park, the Premiers losing 20-51 while a bit closer for the Reserves going down 17-26.

The Premiers will forget about their match quickly and regroup for next weekends match with Celtic. They were outplayed across the park and just couldn't get much working except for a couple of glimpses but young Chris Walsh from Ireland looks like a good addition to the club.

The Reserves played a great game and actually won the second half 17-5 but the damage was done in the final 5 minutes of the first half when their good defence slipped and Harlies ran in two converted tries to lead 21 nil at the break. That win is not far away and the lads may be well in the hunt after the next round.

Points Scorers:
Premier
Tries: Kegan Weir, Epeli Rokovaka, Paula Fonokalafi
Penalties: Jack Farrell
Conversions: Jack Farrell
Fulltime Waimate 20 lost to Harlequins 51

Premier Reserves
Tries:Cody Warren, TBA, TBA
Conversion Oliver Pankhurst
Fulltime Waimate 17 lost to Harlequins 26.

This week's Premier team is proudly brought to you by Platinum sponsor Makikihi Fries.

Good to see a couple of players back from injury and lots of the Reserves stepping up to help again.

Both matches are on Fraser Park No 2 so rug up to keep warm, grab a coffee off Tania Ford and get in behind our lads.

The Reserves are still working on a couple of spots so their team will be announced tomorrow.

Also tomorrow night all the best to our Club who are finalists in the "The Courier Community Sport and Recreation Impact" Award tomorrow night at the South Canterbury Sports Awards at the Caroline Bay Hall.

GO WAIMO !! πŸ’™β€οΈπŸ‰

It looks like most of our club are on the road this weekend with the Prems and Reserves up against Harlies on Fraser Park No 2 and three JAB teams away too.

A big thanks to our Platinum sponsor Gilbert Rugby NZ for all their support.

Ok team, time to get your blue and red gear on and fly our colours at Fraser Park - the penultimate game in the first round so it coud have a big bearing on placings at the sharp end of the season so get along and watch as the forecast looks ok for Saturday.

A special occasion today for Josh O’Neill who led the Waimate Premiers onto the field in honour of his 100th senior cap. A couple of decades in the making Josh has been a great servant of the club and especially as a utility player spending time at halfback, in the loose forwards or even ho**er or as the team needed.

Congratulations Josh, enjoy the occasion and celebrate this special achievement.

Onto the game and a much more competitive Geraldine team than previous seasons fronted up and took only 3 minutes to score a try and if not ready yet it certainly woke the Waimate lads up eventually winning the match by 28-15.

The score see-sawed throughout the first half but Waimate went to the break 17-15 ahead.

A penalty to Oliver Pankhurst not long after halftime stretched the lead and playing downhill with the sun behind their backs meant Waimate do.inated more territory but the Geraldine defence was solid with just further penalty to add to the score.

Eventually Waimate scored another try but that and the two penalties were the only scores in a good battle.

Great to see Henry Bryce joining Theo out of retirement to help the team although his expected 20 minutes became 60 mins so he will be sore tomorrow but we'll done.

The return of Miles Medlicott helped give more direction and co-captain Toko Fakatava putting in a good game from lock while Pankhurst Conversions minutes to grow his game.

Well done guys, a win for the team and team mates Josh to help celebrate.

Next week it is off to Fraser Park.

Points Scorers
Tries: Johan Edzes, Miles Medlicott, Clarence Moli
Penalties: Oliver Pankhurst (3)
Cpnversions: Oliver Pankhurst (2)
Trophies: Colin (Sandy) Mackenzie Cup, Jack Kelly Challenge Cup.
Fulltime Score: Waimate 28 beat Geraldine 15
