A huge congratulations to Eva Rose, Annika, Cooper, Emelia and Petra who attended Intermediate Lifeguard School this past weekend at Taylor’s Mistake. The 5 candidates took part in a rock module, board module, patrol scenarios, first aid scenarios, and SAR scenarios. They also had many different sessions such as leadership, external agency visits and more!

We also had Helena come to rock instruct, Amy there as staff and Ailsa (one of our og lifegaurds) come as St John.

Well done to everyone for a great weekend🧡🤎

Super proud of our small but mighty đź’Şteam of Waikuku Seniors who attended the AON Surf Lifesaving Nationals last week in Ohope.

For those who have seen the seniors train or race, you know that our fantastic five sure can fly across the sand. So, it might come as no surprise that these five made not one, but TWO, sprint relay finals. But at a national level this is outstanding and with each relay requiring some members racing up too!!!

We also had some pretty amazing individual results on the beach and team results in the water (check them out below). With Waikuku walking away as 34th out of 44 clubs on the national club leaderboard.

U17 beach relay FINAL - Waikuku 7th (Isaac R, Isaac P, Dylan P, Michael)
U19 beach relay FINAL - 7th (Isaac R, Dylan P, Michael, Teo)
U17 sprint FINAL - Michael 4th, Isaac R 8th
U17 flags FINAL - Michael 5th, Isaac R 12th
U19 flags FINAL- Isaac R 8th, Teo 14th
U19 2km run FINAL - Teo 14th
U19 ski relay - Waikuku 15th (Michael, Isaac R, Teo)
U19 board relay FINAL - Waikuku 19th (Isaac R, Teo, Dylan)

Lastly, but certainly not least BIG shout out to Eleanor for competing at the Masters Surf Lifesaving Nationals.

It’s been busy on the beach for our sports teams:

Our juniors competed in the Southern Regional Junior Championships finishing with some great results, with over 30 top 10 placings and 2 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals. And a big shout out to Josef Copplestone who placed 3rd overall in his age group!

While the following week our seniors competed in the Southern Region Championships at Warrington Beach, along with some marine mammal friends who wanted to get into the action.
Our six seniors earned 4 golds, 8 silvers, and 6 bronze medals between them, placing Waikuku Beach 6th out of 14 clubs - what an effort đź’Ş

Waikuku now also has an IRB racing team, and they attended the Canterbury IRB Championships for their debut race event last weekend.

To top it all off Zoe and Emily have just returned from the national Oceans 2026 junior event where Zoe absolutely smashed it on the beach, and Emily was highly commended for her attitude and sportsmanship from officials and other surf clubs.

See you on the beach 🏖️ this weekend for the Junior Canterbury Championships
