Graham C. Fairburn
It is with a sad and heavey heart that today the Waikanae Bowling Club members attended the funeral of the club Patron, Graham Fairburn.
Current Club President, Garry Wilson, read the Eulogy.
Graham wasn't just an enthusiastic Bowler but more of an institution and pivatol Club member.
Graham wasn't one to just talk about things that should be done, he, (unlike so many of others) he just got on and made it happen.
Having helped raise the funds for many projects he just rolled up his sleeves and got on with finishing the job.
Graham had been almost everything in our club.
Bowler, President, Selector, Committee Membrr, Bar Manager, Builder of the Te Moana Clubrooms, Creator of the greens, Life Member, Club Patron.
His exploits didnt stop there as a major contributor to the Bowls Kapiti Centre where he was member of the executive, Selector and even President.
Graham will be very sadly missed by the Waikanae Bowling Club.
A club he loved. Club members who were his mates.
Members of the Club formed a guard of honour with pride for Graham.
He will be well remembered for a long time for his massive contrbution to the Waikanae Bowling Club.
RIP Graham

Phil Todd,
What a week its been for him here at
"The Australian Bowls Open 2026" on the Gold Coast.
Many of you are aware that Phil Todd, a Waikanae Bowling Club member who also plays out of the Johnsonville Club has been over on the Gold Coast playing in the Australian Open.
He has had a great run and played his best bowls against Aaron Teys where at one stage he was leading 16-10. Aaron was seen to be getting a little rattled by Phil, almost losing his cool at one stage.
It was a real pressure game and the experience of Aaron Teys, the number 3 bowler in the world finally showed through and he went on to beat Phil 21-19.
Phil still qualified for the knockout stages though.
After 2000 it got whittled down to 128
Phil's next opponent was an up and coming junior champ whom he beat 21-5 to get into the round of 64.
This was a tough game against Kobe Barton
Phil struggled to get on top of the pace of the slow grass surface at Nerang.
He was finally beaten by Kobe but definitely not disgraced.
Congratulation Phil.
Thank you for bringing such high quality display of bowls to our clubs.
There were also a good number of other Wellington Bowlers competing.
Phil's partner in the pairs Ian McCleod and Peter Small being among them.

Having a little trouble getting up to date info on Phil Todd's progress in the Australian Open Bowls currently being run on the Gold Coast this year.
I understand he was awaiting the results of a couple of games in the pairs yesterday to see if they got through to the knockout stages.
In the singles though
he has already qualified for the Knockout ( Last 128 down from 2000) stage for the singles.
The draw will be made Friday and his game played from 11.45am Saturday.

Good Luck Phil.
I know you have the whole of the Kapiti Coast behind you and no doubt many of your Johnsonville mates too!.
OK,
Just heard, Phil and his partner just missed out on going thru to the next stage in the pairs.
I am going to see if i can get to watch him play this Saturday,( his game in the Mens Singles is 10.45 am) before I have to fly back to Kapiti Sunday morning.
Heres a couple of photos

Club member Phil Todd has had a run of great success recently.
Phil, who as a Waikanae Bowler also plays out of the Johnsonville Club has received 7 awards this year. Most notable is 3 from the Wellington Centre.
Phil is currently playing in the Austealian Open Singles. "Just for the experience" he says.
Well he won all 3 of his qualifying games beating a couple of top rep players in the process. From over 2000 entries he is now in the knockout stage of 128.
Well done Phil.
He is also entered in the pairs and triple later this week. Good Luck and best wishes from us all here at the Waikanae Bowling Club
I was sent a couple of photos but my skill set doesnt go as far as getting them from Whats App to Facebook.
Maybe when i get back to Waikanae some intelligent person can help me. Gro?

Following on from todays Friday 2x4x2 Bowls was the usual Friday evening "Drinks and Nibbles" where a good crowd turned out to see if the Joker would be struck.
Rod and Barb won the right to flip the card tonite.
Not the Joker but still good enough to collect $20.
Well done Rod.
It was great also to welcome yet another group of new members to our Waikanae Social Club .

Another busy Friday followed buy a great evening at the Waikanae Bowling Club
2x4x2 Winter Bowls was played with some exciting and close finishes from all the team from around the region.
Unfortunately we still only have 1 green in action as we are still waiting for the new surface to arrive from Singapore.
Shipping has been delayed and held up, we believe because of the war on in Humuz Straits.
As a consequencea some teams had to be balloted out.
Hope fully it will be up and running for the June 2x4x2 Fridays coming up next.
