Come and play the 15th and 17th holes at Waikanae with Chris, our GM.
The 15th has as close to the perfect arrangement of features as any hole on the course. The fairway gently meanders from right to left through the dunes. From the tee, you have options: hit something short of the large dune on the right to make the tee shot far more forgiving, or challenge the hole and try to fit a drive into the narrow part of the fairway, leaving a shorter approach.
The green is set perfectly amongst the dunes, with a small hill blocking your view of the left side of the green and making distance control more difficult. This green is a small target with subtle slopes, making the birdie putt a little tougher than most out here.
The 17th combines stunning native wetlands with some of the course’s best natural dune shapes and plays into the prevailing northwesterly. Another hole with options from the tee, Chris chooses to hit an iron for safety, leaving a mid- to short-iron approach into another fantastic green complex.
The pin location on this green dramatically affects how the hole plays and which features of the surrounds become “no-go zones.” A miss on the short side of the pin here leaves a very tough up-and-down.
