Come and play the 15th and 17th holes at Waikanae with Chris, our GM.

The 15th has as close to the perfect arrangement of features as any hole on the course. The fairway gently meanders from right to left through the dunes. From the tee, you have options: hit something short of the large dune on the right to make the tee shot far more forgiving, or challenge the hole and try to fit a drive into the narrow part of the fairway, leaving a shorter approach.

The green is set perfectly amongst the dunes, with a small hill blocking your view of the left side of the green and making distance control more difficult. This green is a small target with subtle slopes, making the birdie putt a little tougher than most out here.

The 17th combines stunning native wetlands with some of the course’s best natural dune shapes and plays into the prevailing northwesterly. Another hole with options from the tee, Chris chooses to hit an iron for safety, leaving a mid- to short-iron approach into another fantastic green complex.

The pin location on this green dramatically affects how the hole plays and which features of the surrounds become “no-go zones.” A miss on the short side of the pin here leaves a very tough up-and-down.

This is the third major area of the course we’ve tackled this season. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who have helped with these projects — you know who you are. It simply wouldn’t be possible without you ♥️

We have an incredible opportunity here at Waikanae, given our location and proximity to some of New Zealand’s largest and most biodiverse native areas. It’s something we plan to lean into as much as possible.

Over the next few years, we aim to plant thousands of native species throughout the course, with the goal of enhancing the landscape, increasing biodiversity, and attracting even more native birdlife to Waikanae Golf Club

For more information about what we have planned go to the "about us" section of our website 🙏

The legend himself, Kelly Houghton, has been out here all day drilling holes for our new plants going in next week 💪

With the constant work required to maintain a golf course, it’s crucial to have an area where green waste can go. This space was a pine plantation until recently. Plantings of mānuka, kānuka, and cabbage trees will screen the area from sight without growing too tall or casting shade onto the course. Grass likes ☀️

Message us if you’re keen to help with the planting — we’ll likely be getting stuck into it next Thursday ⛳

Hope you find these little updates entertaining 😉

This is so exciting 🙏 all the hard work and planning is coming together ⛳

The 11th is on its way from a slightly baggy hole with potential to something truly special.

Thanks to all those involved in making this project come together. We can't wait to be out here playing it.
