OCEANAGOLD UPCOMING WORKS IN THE CLARKE ST AREA
See letter from OGNZ below about the work...
Hi Mark,
I wanted to give you a heads-up about some upcoming works we have planned to start in early March. We’ll be undertaking work adjacent to Gladstone Hill to install an additional diffuser in the Ohinemuri River, alongside our existing treated water discharge system. As part of this work, we’ll also be excavating a trench and laying a new pipe to connect the diffuser to our Water Treatment Plant.
Because these works are close to public tracks across OceanaGold land, there may be times when we need to temporarily manage access to ensure public safety. Signage will be in place to advise of any diversions or short-term closures. At this stage however, we don’t expect any restrictions on the Gladstone Hill Mountain Bike Tracks, although access routes to the tracks may change as different stages of the installation progress. I encourage you to keep an eye on the signage at track entrances and follow any posted diversions.
For context, a diffuser is a pipe installed in a river with small openings that release treated water. Diffusers are used because they disperse treated water gradually rather than discharging it as a strong jet at a single point. This helps the water mix quickly and safely with the river flow.
This work is not related to the Gladstone Open Pit project we’ve discussed previously, which is still many years away, with no construction expected to begin for another eight years or so.
Please share this information with others in your club who may be interested. If you have any specific questions or concerns, I’m more than happy to help.
Kind regards,
Phillip Salmon
