Su***de awareness
Tomorrow at the event centre in Waihi is a free community event to bring awareness around su***de, there are guest speakers, free BBQ, stuff for the kids, a remembrance table.

Su***de has a long-lasting and far-reaching impact on the lives of many people in New Zealand. Every year, far too many New Zealanders die by su***de, with many more attempting su***de. This has a devastating impact on their whānau and families, friends, peers, colleagues, hapū, iwi and wider communities.
There are a range of skilled services and support available to help keep people well and build resilience, recognise and respond to distress, address risk factors associated with su***de, and to empower families, whānau and communities to support each other.
While many of these services are working well and achieve positive outcomes, more needs to be done to reduce su***de in New Zealand. We must do better. Every life matters and every death by su***de is one too many.
538 people died by suspected su***de in the 2021/22 financial year (from July 2021 to June 2022), less than the 607 reported for 2020/21 and 628 reported in 2019/20.
Males are more than twice as likely to die by su***de than females
New Zealand’s youth su***de rate for adolescents aged 15-19 years was reported to be the highest of 41 OECD/EU countries (based on data from 2010).
