We are incredibly proud of our entire team that represented Waihi College at Pegasus cup.

Pegasus cup is a premier Showjumping event limited to 50 secondary school teams from across NZ, held at the prestigious Takapoto Estate.

Congratulations not only to our riders - Loren Knight, Tamsin Douglas, Ali Sharfe and Tayha Lysaght, but to all the rest of our team who brought the team spirit not only working hard as grooms, stable decorators, and helping in the arena, but for the the neverending cheerleading and support - Gia Sharfe, Maia Goodwin, Fern Goodwin, Isabelle Carey & Kyla Muir.

The Sportsmanship Award, proudly sponsored by Bayleys, is presented to the team that demonstrates exceptional sportsmanship throughout the competition. This includes politeness to officials, respect towards sponsors and volunteers, and a willingness to help and support others throughout the event.

This award recognises teams who contribute positively to the atmosphere of the competition and help make Pegasus Cup a supportive and respectful environment for everyone involved.

One of our most special awards at Pegasus Cup, awarded to the Team that demonstrates exceptional Sportsmanship throughout the competition, is the Bayleys Sportsmanship Award.

From Tutus, to Cheering to the Pony Kissing Booth the Waihi College Girls brought it all!

Congratulations also to our 2026 Runners Up, Gisborne Girls High School and thank you to all of our Teams, the 2026 Pegasus Cup certainly was a vibe!

The 2026 interschool competitions kicked off with Waikato secondary schools showjumping champs on the 25th February.

We took a team of 10 girls to Kihikihi where they competed in 3 rounds consisting of an instant jump off, accumulator and a fun jigsaw event. All senior teams had to have 1 rider in each height category of 75/85/95cm which saw some riders challenging themselves on new or green ponies.

With 13 intermediate teams, 20 secondary school teams, and 30+ riders in each jump height category, the competition was strong.

It was a mixed day of results, with highlights of the day watching our intermediate team girls Fern, Maia & Mackenzie ride in their first competiton and making us proud - and Tayha, Gia, Tamsin, Isabelle and Ali and all having clear rounds with results falling just outside the ribbons.

Massive thank you to our amazing Parents and supporters David, Robin, Beth, Lisa, Garrad, Jo, Felicity & Evie for a great day.

Waihi college held its end of year prizegivings this week.

Massive congratulations to Tayha Lysaght who was awarded the ‘Rider of the future’ award for the team, but also the Laurus Nobulis award for excellence in a indivdual sporting code, and runner up Year 9 sportsperson of the year!

Congratulations to Loren Knight for winning the ‘Team Spirit’ award for sportsmanship.

Also we are incredibly proud of Evah Carey for being awarded Dux of Waihi College - academically top in year 13. Evah stepped back from riding but behind the scenes continued on in a coaching/mentorship role for the team to be able to concentrate on her studies - and it has paid off! Congratulations Evah!

NISS day 3 (Wednesday) was Show Jumping

Another frosty morning with an early start at 8 am

Tamsin and The Lincolnator placed 24th in the 70-80cm 2 phase, while Tayha and HB Told ya’ So had an unlucky rail in both the 80-90cm accumulator and 2 phase resulting in 41st and 32nd.

Final day of NISS tomorrow with the remaining Show jumping classes and Show Hunter to go.

NISS day 2 update (Tuesday)
Dressage and Arena eventing.

A cold foggy morning in Taupo gave Tayha a challenging early start in the thick mist with a busy chaotic warm up and a highly excited and bouncy Ngaru for the 80 pony Arena Eventing. Despite that they managed a confident clear round resulting in 13th in a large class of almost 50.
Later in the day Lincoln cruised nicely around the 65 horse Arena eventing for Tamsin to place 4th.

Both girls did some of their best dressage in the 1C with Tayha scoring 65% for 5th in her section, and Tamsin scoring 68.5% to come 2nd in her section.

A fantastic day of riding both girls can be proud of.

Day 1 NISS. A foggy start turned into a beautiful sunny day in Taupo today.
This is the largest event in the school calender with almost 500 riders from across the North Island competing in up to 6 disciplines across 4 days - CTR, Games, Dressage, Arena Eventing, Show Hunter and Showjumping.

Both Tamsin & Tayha rode their Prelim 1B Dressage tests today.
- Tamsin on The Linconator scoring 65 and 13th in her division A E;
- Tayha on HB Told ‘Ya So scoring 64.821 for 4th in her division A A. Well done Tayha!

A great start for the week, with both girls riding lovely tests and exceeding their expectations of scoring in the top half of large sections

Day 2 tomorrow is the 2nd Dressage test and Arena eventing which they are both looking forward to.

25/08/2025

Tamsin, Tineke, Tayha and Lisa are braving the cold in Taupo this week for the North Island Secondary Schools Equestrian Championship. This is so cool to be sending our riders down to such a huge event! Good luck for the week girls!
