Hauraki Waka Ama headed North with our waka waipaopao and mananui for a hearty 🌊 Surf to Surf challenge at Mangawhai Heads a couple of weekends ago — what an experience! Check out some of the awesome footage captured by Elevated Media NZ 🎥✨

Rā Tuatahi - A solid and hearty relay 🔁 — our first crews smashed out 15km with a beautiful tailwind 🌬️, then the next crews hit the surf for 15km straight into the wind 💪🌊

Next set of crews paddled a solid 10km race — pushing limits and backing each other all the way 🔥

Stunning waters, mean vibes, and strong connections 🤝 — always lessons to take away and wins to celebrate 🎉
Huge shoutout to our crews bringing home some pōtae 🧢 🙌

Rā Tuarua brought the fun 🔥
Some pretty amazing wāhine (and Mike! 😄) took on the waka 4-man surfing comp 🌊🏄‍♂️ — who needs practice right? Just get in there 😅😂

Ngā mihi nui to Mangawhai Waka Ama for hosting such an amazing kaupapa 🙏💜
Ka kite anō! ✨

Rangipehi King | Kāhui Rua Rep

Ko Rangipehi King tōku ingoa.
He uri au nō Ngāti Maniapoto rāua ko Ngāti Whātua.

You’ll find Rangipehi paddling along the coastline of Waihī Beach, woven between te hā o Tangaroa and te wairua o Hinemoana. Seat 6 is where her hoe meets the water in a W6 — balanced, steady, and deeply connected.

Home for her is with Hauraki Waka Ama, where she stands as Club President. On the start line, she is a kaihoe of Ruamata Waka Ama, carrying both whakapapa and purpose with every stroke.

Her passion and purpose within TPOTI lies in the creation and evolution of our kāhui —
✨ To awhi and uplift our clubs through this new and innovative governance journey
✨ To nurture collective growth
✨ To build strength alongside one another
✨ And to connect the wairua that moves us as one waka

We value Rangipehi’s steady leadership, cultural grounding, and the wairua she brings to TPOTI — guiding with integrity, unity, and aroha.

He kaihautū e ū ana ki te wairua o te waka – A leader grounded in the spirit that moves us as one.

It's more than paddling, it's a deeper connection ✨️ it's a vibe when we get to paddle and share the waka with our whānaunga in Whitianga.

A few of our club members joined Hauraki Waka Ama Club for another Rotohoe Race recently. It was 4 degrees and the wind picked up, but that didn't stop this awesome crew from coming 1st 🙌 Nā tō rourou, nā taku rourou ka ora ai te iwi.

Our Club is extremely grateful for a OceanaGold grant to purchase Safety Equipment for our paddlers. Our four new safety bags go out on the waka with us when we are training, racing or just cruising! Each water proof bag includes VHF radio, strobe light, PLB, dive knife, first aid kit.
Huge thanks to OceanaGold for helping keep HWA club members safe on the water!
