Camp Okoki

Camp Okoki Basic but good camping facilities in a rural location. No cell phone reception, perfect off the grid! Swimming pool with outdoor showers. Basic kitchen.

We aim to stay affordable. Kids under 5 free. Contact us via email for prices and information. Camp Okoki is a 15 minute drive (15km) from Urenui township, North Taranaki. It is nestled in the eastern hills, in a quiet valley, but not far from the surrounding west coast beaches, white cliffs walkway, and the small village of Urenui. It is a unique rural setting, very peaceful! There is no cell pho

ne coverage (which makes it very popular for the youth groups and schools that stay). There is a landline connected inside the main building - ph number is 7523608. Price starts at $8 per night per person for tenting and caravans. You so need to be totally self sufficient and bring your supplies e.g. cleaning product, toilet paper etc...

We welcome families, school camps, youth groups, family gatherings and events. There are great opportunities for staff development, celebrations and charity events. Local residents have access to the pool through the summer months. Camp Okoki is run by a group of local volunteers. We do our best to respond to your queries within 24 hours. Because the site is un-manned, you do need to Pre-Book. Please contact us via email or FB Messenger to make your booking and check availability. We now have an AED (defibrillator) available at the Okoki School. To get access, dial 111, and you will receive the code to access this. A BIG thank you to Tyla Nickson and the Clifton Community Board for providing this for us. We are very grateful, as a number of our residents are a long way from the nearest AED. Thank you to Harry Jury for installing this and donating a screen for one of the toilets. The screen will help to keep the birds out 😀

Pool Progress Update. The 1st Coat is on and this weekend the last two top coats will be applied. Thanks to our wonderful community members who turned up and did the Mahi! We are juggling spring rainy weather. A big thank you again the the Taranaki Catchment Community who has allowed us to have the opportunity to learn from the Pros and help us with our goals. I can't wait to see this sparkling new pool ready for summer. Stay tuned........

The facilities at Camp Okoki will be closed through September and October, 2023. We are making repairs to the kitchen ceiling and upgrading the walls in the classroom. This is thanks to TET Grant who put back into our community. Also the Taranaki Catchment Community has contributed to some consultation which will enable the community to repaint the pool. We are very very grateful.
The trustees will meet again at the end of October, and will be having a working bee to have the place ship-shape for the summer season.

This Easter the NZ Motor Caravan Association stayed with us. Roger, our Chairman, gave the group a historical talk about the school and district. And thank you Marie for climbing the hill to take such a great photo!
Hope to see you back again soon.

Camp Okoki has vacancies for camps or as a day activity venue during Term 1. This is due to some schools unable to cover Covid requirements. If you would like to have a school camp or even use the Camp for day activities (we have a good sized paddock, swimming pool, a bush covered hill and the building itself that you could use for activities that you could devise and run). It is available from 14th February through to 18th March. Please get in contact with us if you would like further information

All users of Camp Okoki need to be aware of the guidance issued by the government as we move into Red. So when in the buildings you should be wearing a mask and of course practice social distancing if there other campers not part of your family group. Thanks I am sure you will all take care of each other.

Summer is near and its been great enjoying the warmer weather up the valley! Good news is that the pool is open for the season for the locals to enjoy. Look out for the community notice and pool rules in your letter box.

School Camps will be happening from various schools over the summer months. The swimming pool does remain open for the locals to use the pool. Please make yourself known to a supervisor or teacher in charge. We are confident everyone can enjoy the pool.

If you are an Okoki resident please don't hesitate to message us to get a copy of the Pool Safety Rules, and we will forward the code for the pool key.
