Why do you train/workout/exercise?

Think of the big picture.

Maybe your why has changed over the years - mine certainly has!

For me, it used to be about hitting PBs and looking muscular and fit. Now, it’s more about longevity, feeling strong and able bodied, and healthy aging, in order to be the best I can be for my daughter now and in the future 🩷

The more connected you are to YOUR why, the more likely you are to feel motivated and stay consistent.

Inner core strength - something I recently discovered I did not have under control!

Since getting back into training as a new mum, I have continually felt like my lifts and movements just don’t feel right. I started a new trial program a few weeks ago and was doing a plank (which I hadn’t done in a long time) and looked down to discover my stomach was ‘coning’ or ‘doming’ (shown in second slide).

I was disappointed and humbled at the same time to see this, as it made a lot of sense why my heavy lifts, strength, and mind-muscle connection has not felt quite right since becoming a mum.

Did I spend time working on my core strength after having my daughter? Yes. Did I dedicate enough time to this and take it seriously? Probably not!!

So I’m now having to regress a lot of movements so that I can properly engage and train these muscles again, and it made me realise how important it is to take the right steps toward exercising again after having a baby. I thought I was good to go just because I had been a confident lifter prior to pregnancy, but no one is immune from the stresses that pregnancy and childbirth has on the body!

And please remember - if you have any pain or discomfort during exercise or normal day to day activities, or any concerns regarding your pelvic floor health, always reach out to your GP or pelvic floor specialist!

It's March and we're well past that 'New Year' stage, however Autumn brings about a natural desire for change as the leaves fall from the trees and make way for new growth.
