Some close crosses on the slide to Coromandel yesterday for the last race of the SSANZ triples series. Flat water, sun out and breeze on, great day on the Gulf!

It's been a minute...

What a day/night on the Gulf for the SSANZ 100 this weekend! Not sure winter yachting gets any better actually, 15knt SSW had the slippery squid sliding along just fine.

Good start with MHO, peel to A1.5 before rangi light, held it to Motuora, beat to Tiri, A1.5 to Flat Rock, beat to durville, A1.5 to Coro, beat home..

The leaders had a monumental park up in the firth which allowed us to slide through and be with Equilibrium and ahead of the other 40's at the last turning mark. Bit of a race restart at that point and the faster 40s and Fiction slipped through on the waterline length race back to the finish.

Highlights. Sun and wind in winter, dolphin schools during the glass off as the sun was setting that were the size of football fields, asking Steve and Jamie on Clockwork Racing why they couldn't get past us until the last leg ๐Ÿคฃ

Looks like all on for the last race with a few boats contending for the series.

Thanks SSANZ team and Damon for jumping in for the series!

Beautiful day on the horizon, hot coffee and the Kraken flowing thanks to Harri. Pity about the forestay snapping in 2 and disappearing into the deep blue, we were having a great run up until then. Crew safe, mast still standing, not sure how.. enroute to opua for some reserve diesel for our motor back down the coast.

It's been a minute... Serena has been in full prep mode for the last few weeks as we get her ready for the trip north to Noumea and the Groupama race.

First up next week is the 'shakedown' with the Three Kings race which we are doing fully crewed. Fizzing to get back out there and put the boat through her paces!

Cat1 inspection passed earlier in the week and today involved some system checks and getting a view of the bright orange sails to keep the safety officers happy.

If the forecast doesn't play ball, we might have to ditch a couple of the Kites and replace for fishing rods...
Jag a kingy at the 3K for some sashimi on the leg home for team morale ๐Ÿ˜†

It's always an effort getting to the start line for a little programme like this, particular thanks to Focus Marine NZ , SeamTech and Rory for all the work. The spreadsheet has heaps more Green than Red now ๐Ÿ’ช

Another PIC Coastal Classic done and dusted.

What a simple and brilliant forecast for this race, a building and lifting E to SE breeze as we made our way up the coast. If only it had found its way to our part of the start line...

Sometimes your good, sometimes your lucky, sometimes neither. We found our windless hole and parked between breezes drifting back in the tide for an hour as our division sailed away at the top end of the line.

Rest of the race.... hunt the pack, put as much gear up as possible and keep on or just below course. MHO then BRO, A5, reef in, reef out, until running under the A2 in 25knots coming in hot to Brett.

With a super confused sea state in the dark, we "managed" a sketchy drop...turned sail makers dream 1nm from Brett, then a wise call by Ryan for a granny tack in 30+ knots had us taking the inside line on Percy and passing another 5 boats. Quick reach to the finish and very pleased to have the boat and team in one piece.

Thanks to our epic crew who take the annual pilgrimage and Congrats to the winners and competitors who completed the course.

Also, our condolences and thoughts with the crew and family who lost a manโค๏ธ๐Ÿ™

Now sending it all the way to Brett. Hit 19.6 knots in a surf, good averages now as we peg bag the miles after being stuck in the start line in a drift off for close to an hour!
