Another PIC Coastal Classic done and dusted.
What a simple and brilliant forecast for this race, a building and lifting E to SE breeze as we made our way up the coast. If only it had found its way to our part of the start line...
Sometimes your good, sometimes your lucky, sometimes neither. We found our windless hole and parked between breezes drifting back in the tide for an hour as our division sailed away at the top end of the line.
Rest of the race.... hunt the pack, put as much gear up as possible and keep on or just below course. MHO then BRO, A5, reef in, reef out, until running under the A2 in 25knots coming in hot to Brett.
With a super confused sea state in the dark, we "managed" a sketchy drop...turned sail makers dream 1nm from Brett, then a wise call by Ryan for a granny tack in 30+ knots had us taking the inside line on Percy and passing another 5 boats. Quick reach to the finish and very pleased to have the boat and team in one piece.
Thanks to our epic crew who take the annual pilgrimage and Congrats to the winners and competitors who completed the course.
Also, our condolences and thoughts with the crew and family who lost a manโค๏ธ๐
