🏀🌟 Spirit of Basketball Award – A Very Special Achievement! 🌟🏀

This year, Tongariro School was proud to be part of the Taupō Basketball Competition, alongside teams and players from across the rohe.

At the conclusion of the competition, Azarhyaah Singh was selected from players across the entire competition to receive the 2026 Spirit of Basketball Award! 🏆

This is a fantastic achievement. The award recognises more than basketball ability — it celebrates the sportsmanship, attitude, respect, effort and positive spirit a player brings to the game.

Azarhyaah has represented Tongariro School with pride, demonstrating the values we want to see in our tauira both on and off the court.

Kia ora our mustang whānau ❤️ 🩶 ❤️ another meke as day for our club kids and hearty supporters🙂 thank you to all who made this day possible on our HOME GROUNDS AGAIN massive mahi team 👍🏿 heading into today's final we were definitely aware of the challenge that lay ahead coming up against our brother/sister team the Tongariro hornets, who have been the benchmark team this season, a big physical side with some high caliber players spread amongst, well coached and taking out a well deserved 60-15 win 🏆 tu much Ebowl and crew 👏
To our team the Tongariro mustangs today's loss definitely doesn't portray the wicked season/tourneys yous have had the privilege to be apart of and play in, Heads up. 🫡 throughout this year whānau this group continued to surprise us with their resilience and toughness always punching above their weights and ages, an immense improvement in them all 💛 unfortunately today not our day , rugby definitely the winner 🏉 very very proud coaches, also as coach turei mentioned, team we both couldn't wait to be by yous every tues thurs sat it was what we looked forward to the most during our weeks 💯💯 thank yous mustangs

TŪWHARETOA U19s 🩵🤍 PLAYING ON HOME SOIL

Our Tūwharetoa U19 Tama and Kōtiro teams will be representing our iwi at the NZ Māori Rugby League Matātahi Tournament next weekend, 21–22 August, right here in Taupō!

We’re incredibly proud of our rangatahi and all the mahi they’ve put in to wear the Tūwharetoa jersey.
