Wanderers on the Road:

Wanderers go up against familiar opponents Western Springs Ewane who they faced last year coming out with a draw away and a win at home. They are a tough opposition with some quality players and another team challenging for the league this year.

The boys play in what became a second home ground last year in the way of Seddon Fields but this time on a grass pitch that they haven't played on before at those fields.

If you're out near the zoo, come down and support the boys in Black and Yellow as the Wanderers kit up in their away kit!

Wanderers Update

Thankfully there’s two halves of football! Wanderers undoubtedly played their worst half in the first half vs Te Atatu over weekend going down deservedly 2-0 in their cup tie.

Luke did manage to will a goal back in the last seconds of the first half to give the Wanderers some belief being only 2-1 down.

The team called themselves out at half time and there were some honest conversations about the football being played or lack of! Yes 85% of the team had been fighting whatever bugs that have been going around but messaging was clear, let’s be better together in the second half!

Exactly what happened, Luke setting up Garry to make it 2-2 early into the second half! That followed a continual second half push with Muni’s through ball to an overlapping Jordan (Jazz) was wildly cleared by the Te Atatu right back who managed a crazy own goal from range beating his own keeper.

Wanderers physically took over and continued to play more ball to feet and the early preseason work had paid off and the team seemed to have outlasted Te Atatu while still making several smart rolling substitutions to keep the energy high until the 90! A 4th goal came for the Wanderers when one of the Te Atatu players handled the ball in the box while trying to stop Luan. Graeme (Bev) stepped up to make it 4-2 which put a seal on the game.

Not the prettiest win but sometimes when chasing trophies, teams need to grind out wins and points and that’s exactly what the boys did.

Shanal Mani took away the man of the match award after providing the right level of energy and ball movement into midfield - not having played their at all this season.

Next up - back to the league where the team faces furthest north team - Puhoi this weekend to try get the win and put a gap between them and the following pack.

Video up on the channel, unfortunately did not calibrate well and only 70-80% of the field and game captured.

Wanderers Update

Last weekend the Wanderers hosted first place Western Springs at home. With a hatrick from captain Garry Abbott and 1 each from Bev, Luan and Luke, the Wanderers outplayed their opposition with 3 goals each side of the half.

That leapfrogs us to the top of the league.

Garry and Sean took the Man of the Match awards as the team bid farewell to “Little Sean” but the team did manage to get a bit more time with him in a very competitive evening of Ten Pin Bowling and then watching Auckland FC lift the A League trophy.

Game can be watched on our YouTube channel:

Onto this weekend as the only team playing this long weekend, the team travel to Te Atatu to face them once again this season but this time in knockout action which will be a completely different game to the opening game of the season as we all know, with cup competition, the team who wants it more on the day is usually the victor so the wanderers will be looking to step up to the challenge.

If you’re out in west Auckland, come cheer the team on!

For all our other teams at the club, enjoy your long weekend off.

How many times can someone have one last match? Well as many times as he has won upcoming player of the year! (Which is a few times)

Wanderers host Western Springs Black Swans for a top of the table clash.

Last time these two teams met 2 years ago when the Wanderers fell short right at the end of a quarterfinal clash conceding late in a tightly contested game while being severely short on numbers.

With a bit more depth now, and confidence behind them, the boys will be giving it that little bit extra for Sean’s last game before his journey to the other side of the world similar to Jesse Randall as he also gets one more run at Go Media stadium in their grand final.

Come down and watch Sean and team from 1pm.

Weekends Fixtures confirmed. Get out there and have a great time around the grounds.

Wanderers Update

Weekend saw a match up against a potential league contender, the last team to beat the Wanderers home and away, both times the Wanderers went in with depleted squads but this time around apart from a last minute loss in the backline, most of the squad was available.

Game started physical but Wanderers dominated things, the Goal Diggers had a long throw in a big striker threat but that was neutralised by captain Gaz in the backline filling in for the absent Kartik.

Unfortunately a late dirty tackle saw another big injury for striker Luke who landed on his shoulder tearing some ligaments which turned to an instant A & E trip which will end up being a potential 6 week sideline.

Game continued, Fencibles had the better of the chances even though they only had 2 real chances and converted 1 of them off a free kick with a breakdown in communication and probably the old header we didn’t win in the back line all game.

Second half the Wanderers turned up the intensity and creativity in play and eventually got one goal back with a cut back from Phil which was finished by makeshift striker Muni.

Wanderers ran the Goal Diggers to the ground but unfortunately the final whistle came before a second Wanderers goal, with the game ending 1-1.

We take the shared points and move onto next week with a chance to go top of the table with another clash with another top of the table opponent and contender for the league.

Man of the match went to captain Garry Abbott.

Wanderers hit the road to face the last team to beat them home or away. Last home loss was 11 months ago and the away loss was with a somewhat depleted squad so the team goes into the game full confidence that they will walk away with 3 points.

If you are out in East Auckland, come support the boys in green.

Sean plays his last away game for the team before his travels. (One more home game to go for him!)
