Details of season passes for 2021:

2020 has been a hell of a year for all of us. So we’ve taken the time to reimagine what matters most – you and your experience with us.

Update on Parking:
With NZ now in Level 1 (Auckland excepted), RAL has removed the need to book car parks during the week for Turoa or Whakapapa. You do still need to book if you are intending to arrive on a Saturday or Sunday before 1pm for Whakapapa, and before 11am for Turoa.

Update on Lifts:
There's also a rumour that they're hoping to open the Far West T bar in a week or so. I heard this from an RAL board member, so I hope its a reliable source.

There's also some fresh snow in the forecast for later this week & early next week, so these school holidays could deliver some great skiing. The middle weekend is already booked out, but there's plenty of room before / after.

CAR PARKING DURING LEVEL 2:

There has been a lot of confusion over RAL's bookable parking during Level 2.

From what we understand, the Bruce Rd is monitored by the carpark bookings team from 7am every day until about 4pm.

if you arrive during these hours you need to have booked or you are not allowed up the road. This is for every day of the week.

If you arrive OUTSIDE these hours (evening / during the night) you can drive straight up without a booking. (This is also assuming the road is open - DOC will close the gate at 6pm when they believe the weather is making the road too dangerous.)

As far as bookings go, they are open every Wednesday. They open up 50% of spaces at 10am and the other 50% at 6pm. These are very difficult to get, as demand is huge for not many spaces. It is common for all bookings for the weekend to be full within 2 minutes of bookings opening - it's probably easier getting tickets to a World Cup final than to the Whakapapa car parks!

Spaces do apparently become available as people don't turn up / change their plans, but this is probably too unreliable for most of us travelling from Auckland.

NB:
You also need face-masks to ride the Gondola, and the cafes are limited to 100 pax, so be prepared for a long wait to use them.

The latest news from RAL (Thurs 28 May):

They're intending to open both Whakapapa and Turoa on July 1st, snow allowing.

At Whakapapa, the following lifts will be in operation:

Happy Valley Carpets

Rangatira Express (Weekends and inclement weather days)

Sky Waka Gondola

Knoll T-Bar

At Tūroa, they will be operating:

Movenpick Quad chairlift

Giant Triple chairlift

High Noon Express

They may try and get the Valley T-bar at Whakapapa and Parklane at Turoa open later in the season, depending on demand.
