Titirangi Bowling club had its champion singles this weekend. Our singles are mixed so both men and women can play. Today's final was mixed so it shows both men and women are competing equally against one another.
Today's final had Garry playing Sacha. Sacha is a 2 year junior with a lot of potential and was leading for a lot of the game but a couple of ends that Sacha lost her weight on allowed Garry to get his nose in front and secure the 18 to 21 win.
It was probably one of the best finals I have ever witnessed and feel privileged to have been there.
Keep an eye out for Sachas name in the future.
Congratulations Garry and well done Sacha.

This last couple of weeks was not at all good for Titirangi Bowling club.
We lost Steve a couple of weeks ago and now we have lost Marlene. Marlene has not been well over the last few months and spent time in hospital before returning to her home.
Marlene was short in stature but without a doubt, the biggest person in the club with her personality, she lived her bowls and her delivery was unique. Her bowls were some of the widest I have ever seen but she handled them better than great. When you were up against Marlene, you knew you had a true battle on your hands and she would normally win that battle.
Marlenes humor was great and she will leave a huge hole in our lives and in the club.
Rest easy Marlene, a true champion club member and friend.

Titirangi held their championship pairs this weekend. These two played phenomenal bowls all weekend, this is Sacha and Dave’s 2nd year of bowling, Sacha already has the junior singles title beating husband Dave now she has the champ pairs title under her belt, we still have a few championships to play so you had better watch out for this dynamic duo.

Congratulations Sacha and Dave 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Two teams were left in for day 2 of the club champ triples, garry with 2 lives and Kevin with one. It was a lovely day for bowls in titirangi and what started out as a close game, soon became Garry’s teams game. Both sides playing some exceptional shots, but there can only be one winner. Congratulations Garry, neil and Allan .

Glen Eden had their ACT today with a full green of 9 teams I believe. I became unwell and had to pull out so I'm very grateful that Karen K stepped in and the team won. This was extra special to me as I have had a little to do in coaching them all. I'm so proud of Karen, Pippa and Fiona. Well done ladies.

Well done Sacha ! Today saw husband and wife fight it out for the junior singles championship. It only took 2 games for Sacha to bowl over Dave , just like when they first met, to win the title. Well done to both of you there was some excellent bowls from both players who both bowled like they had been playing longer than a year. Can’t wait for the open champs. Congratulations 🥳 Sacha

Today we played for the most Important trophy for our Friday Hong Kong Pairs, the Mike McGowan cup. Mike started this tournament off years ago when the 2-4-2 format was not played very much at all. The last Friday of the month is drawn as well so we get to play with others that we don't play with very often at all
To me and a lot of others, this is the trophy we want to win
We had great conditions and some very very competitive games.
There were two three winners and a two winner with a draw

The winner was Karen and Jim. Well deserved.
The photo shows the McGowan family presenting Karen and Jim with the trophy.

The Campi (for women)was played this weekend along with the canoe for the men.
Sasha played at lead with Fiona at two. The skip was Kara from Glen Eden. They won 3 from four on Saturday and today (Sunday) won all 3 games. I missed the first 2 games this morning but was there for the third. All 3 played really well. They finished a great 4th from 28 teams. We should be very very proud of them. The only game they lost was to the eventual winners and that was a close game with the last end deciding the result.

Just a reminder that winter coaching is coming up soon for 1 to 5 players. Winter coaching is well worth it once you have the basics and will taking players through different drill and shots with the idea of forming teams to compete in the Campie (women's teams) and the Canoe (men's teams)
These are 2 very prestigious trophies and teams with Titirangi members have won in the past.
I'm not sure at this stage but in the last few years west Auckland has been centered at Te Atatu.
I know that some are tied up a lot on Saturdays but again, with discussions with the organizers, I'm sure things can be worked through.
Please consider having a look at this.

Coaching.

Is practice needed?
Depending on the level you would like to play at, it is without a doubt, needed. If your happy to be a roll up player and am not too concerned about the level your at then not a lot of practice would be needed.
If your serious about winning club championship or away tournaments then without a doubt, you need to put effort in just the same as any sport at all.
What should I practice?
Unless your trying to improve one particular shot, then the draw is top of the list. Things like weighted shots (I'm not talking of drives but of shots to remove an opponents bowl and remain on the head) are probably the next shot to put effort into.
It's far easier to practice with someone else than by yourself most of the time so don't be afraid to ask someone if they would like to team up for a few sessions.
The beauty of practicing is that you will have a ready made game situation that will allow you to play the whole range of shots that you may not normally play.
If your by yourself then you can set up "game" situations by using either club bowls or the half tennis balls Karen has kindly left in the mat box. You can set up bowling to different lengths or to play inbetween bowls. You can play weighted shots to remove "shot" bowls or by playing tactical bowls to an area without a target to cover for a moved jack.

In short, practice when every you can to get to the level you want. Don't be afraid to ask your coach for advice on the shots you should be trying.

What brought the topic up? I had a message this morning from a friend asking if I would like to join him on the green this morning.
I need the practice for sure.
