Final Day Boys Football Tournament: We were all go first thing this morning as we had a 9am game . We played on the turf again and once more the wind was a factor. We were one goal down for most of the game until we equalised in the last five minutes!! That meant we went to a penalty shoot out. Unfortunately that didn’t go in our favour. We did, however, win the Tournament Fair Play Award which the refs decide which is testament to the discipline of the boys on the field. Well done to the MVP’s of the matches which included Charlie, Tyler, James and Pranit with the Tournament MVP going to Tyler. The boys were a pleasure to take away and seemed to enjoy the tournament. They are such a young team compared to the teams we played so that bodes well for the next couple of years. Massive thanks to Emma Baird for her fantastic coaching and to Scott Taylor for driving and support.

Final Day Girls Football Tournament: the weather has been amazing for football and today was the same. The team played really well in their only game. It was a team effort, working hard throughout the game and this was exemplified by a well taken goal scored by Lacy. Today we thank our Year 13’s for their contribution to MVHS football. Taylah has become a superb midfield player who hunts the ball tirelessly. Rachel is a great leader who reads the game like a pro. Emjay has a powerful left boot and is equally competent outfield or in goal. Jayda is an excellent defender who never gives up. (And also to Chrissy who has been part of our team during the 2025 season) We will miss you in the mighty green shirt and wish you well in the future! Well done Mountie on a tournament where you improved as a team. Thank you to the parents, friends and family that have supported the team in 2025.

Day 3 Boys Football Tournament: Day 3 of our football tournament was great. Our first game was against Dunstan College- a very even match but unfortunately we lost 1 nil. We escaped the wind by having lunch back at the motel so we were ready for our second game on the turf against Cromwell College. Again, it was an even game but this time we were victorious with a 1 nil win. It was then off to Speights Alehouse for our meal out - a lovely way to end the day! We headed back to the motel for ice cream and a team talk. Bring on tomorrow!

Day 3 Girls Football Tournament: The girls played two games today. It was a test of their endurance and the ability to play together as a team. It was fantastic to see the Mountie spirit on display in both games. In the first game against TGHS it was a narrow loss with the team just not quite being able to find an equaliser. MVP in this game was their captain Rachel who played multiple positions and contributed across the game. Big improvers in our team continue to shine; Ella, Jesse and Drew all had good games today. In the second game it was a highly competitive game against Fiordland College. MVHS went up early with goal from Rachel. In the second half Fiordland got an equaliser and the game stayed 1-1 until the final whistle. So to a penalty shoot out. Bella was goal keeper and managed to save three in a row while for us Emjay, Lacy and Bella all scored. This sealed the deserved win to MVHS. MVP for the game was Bella Eckhold. Congratulations girls on some great football today! Also a special thanks to Alysha Watson who is a fantastic manager of the team!

Day 2 Boys Football Tournament: It was another stunning day in Invercargill today. We only had one game and it was a very close one against Verdon College. Again, the boys played with heart and narrowly lost 1 nil. In the afternoon we returned to the ground to support and watch other teams before trying our skills at Ten Pin Bowling. We had a wander through the flash Invercargill mall before heading back to our motel for tea and a team meeting where we talked tactics for tomorrow. Such a great group of boys to take away…here’s to more fantastic football tomorrow.

Day 2 of Girls Football Tournament: It was a frosty start to the day for the girls but beautiful sunshine. Again our team worked really hard creating opportunities to go forward. Our defence was excellent with our backline players putting in an excellent shift. Although going down today in a super competitive game, it was great see the character the team showed by never giving up. Taylah Cross worked tirelessly in midfield, Bella Eckhold was excellent in goal and outfield, Rachel (MVP for the game) led the team well as captain and Emjay Gale showed her skill outfield and in goal. All of the team deserved their ice cream after the game!!

Day 1 of Boys Secondary School tournament: We had a great day travelling yesterday and settled into our fantastic motel in spring-like weather. Our first day of competition saw us come against some older and well seasoned sides - Logan Park High School (who came second in the Otago Secondary School’s Senior Premier Competition) and Dillworth from Auckland. The boys should be very proud of their work today. They played hard, defended well and made it difficult for the opposition to score. In typical tournament football style we are already managing sickness and injuries but we are all looking forward to playing Verdon College tomorrow morning.
