Latest news - update

We’ve started the year with a new home and can now be found at South School Hall, 44 Queen Street, Parkside, Timaru. We’re grateful to have secured such a great space for our students and families to train and grow together.

🥋 JKS South Canterbury– We’re Back! 🥋
We’re pleased to announce that karate classes resume from 17th February in Timaru.
We welcome individuals and families, with classes available for beginners through to senior levels.
Our dojo offers a friendly, supportive training environment where students can build confidence, fitness, and discipline at their own pace.

🥋 What an incredible experience!
On the 19th of October 2025, some of us were lucky enough to take part in a training seminar with Sensei Arimoto in Christchurch. The session was packed with knowledge, energy, and inspiration — we learned so much and left feeling motivated to keep improving our practice.

A huge thank you to Sensei Arimoto for sharing his expertise and to everyone who came along and trained with such great spirit! 👊✨

Congratulations Ellie you superstar! 🥋

🥋🌟 South Canterbury Para Athlete of the Year 🌟🥋

We’re thrilled to celebrate Ellie Pillar, an extraordinary athlete breaking barriers and making history in karate!

Ellie proudly represented New Zealand at the JKS Karate World Championships in Tokyo, competing in both able-bodied and para-athlete divisions. Her outstanding performance earned her a commemorative medal - a testament to her skill, determination and spirit.

In 2025, Ellie will make history again as the first New Zealand para athlete to compete at the I-Karate Global World Championships. What an incredible journey!

👏 Well done, Ellie - you’re an inspiration to us all!
