Couple of photos from January’s meet at Edgecumbe on the bucket!

Unfortunately the sidecar failed on us during qualifying and despite our best efforts, we couldn’t get it going again.

The mighty FXR did a brilliant job all weekend, however, and we managed to hold our own against some pretty quick/experienced riders. Had a great battle with Henk (who we very sadly lost not even a week later) and Ian in all races. Super stoked to pick up a 3rd in the first race, 4th in the second race, and a 5th in the last race.

Felt very comfortable and in-tune with the bike over that weekend, which I was very happy about and it yielded some good results 😁

Motofest!

It’s been a while since I’ve updated 🫣

Unfortunately I couldn’t afford the test day on Friday, so my first look at the International circuit at Hampton Downs was the brief lap I got out for in qualifying. Unfortunately my bike keeps deciding it’s not a fan of its coils (suspected CDI issue) and I didn’t officially get a lap in during qualifying due to not being able to coax the bike over 80kmph 😂

Thankfully, sidecar frens pulled through and sourced and installed a coil for me and I was able to get out for the only race we had on Saturday, and I had some good battles and wasn’t too upset by my lap times (especially from having to start back of the grid). Unfortunately the race was red flagged with 1 lap to go due to an unfortunate crash amongst two of our fast ladies. They’re feeling a little worse for wear but thankfully on the mend!

Sunday was set to be a great day and I was hoping to have more races like the one the day before; but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. The coil started failing again and I struggled to catch the back of the pack. Slightly disappointing end to an otherwise great weekend!

Onwards to Taupo this weekend for the final round. I’m on a borrowed bike so hopefully some better results to come! I’m also my own worst enemy when it comes to psyching myself out, so fingers crossed I can get my head in the game 🤘

Big thanks to everyone that gave me a hand or words of encouragement on the weekend! Eternally grateful.

AMCC Round 2! Bit cold and windy at the track, with some intermittent sun.

Excited to put some of my own sponsor stickers on the bike today! Thanks 😁

Also scrubbing in some braaaand new tires, thanks to another generous sponsor! I’ve never had brand new tires on a race bike so it’s a bit nerve wracking scrubbing them in during qualifying. Very slow qualifying times because of this 😂 bikes handles sooo much better though. Here’s hoping I can sack up and start riding a little quicker 🤪

Fun little battle in one of the races on Sunday with a mate of mine on his first ever race day! 👏
He might be a rookie racer but he’s a much quicker rider than me on a road bike (and a Hyosung based on the results from the other races 😂).

Was great to get back out on the national circuit at Hampton Downs! Had some great fun racing against a bunch of new racers as well as a familiar bunch from last season.

Qualifying wasn’t my best performance. No practice round this time, straight into qualifying and I was far too in my own head to ride terribly well. Coupled with not much confidence in my well-worn tires meant I felt stiff and not very comfortable on the bike.
Luckily managed to feel heaps more comfortable in the actual races! Couple of messed up starts kept me way back in the field unfortunately. My riding isn’t anywhere near where it was at at the end of last season, so hopefully I can improve over the next few rounds.

The bike also needs a bit of attention. Had plenty of power at the top end but felt incredibly slow to launch at the start and at lower speeds (ie accelerating out of corners). Hopefully I can scrape some time and money together before the next round to see if I can figure out what’s going on 😊

What a weekend 😅 started out on Saturday with a bottomless brunch for one of my best mate’s 30th, then straight on to the launch party for the Carl Cox Cup. Home after that to throw feeds at the horses in the dark and swap the Yaris for the Prado + trailer and off to Tokoroa.

Arrived after 10.30pm in the torrential rain with full plans of going straight to sleep…ended up socialising till after 1am 😅 standard practice at a bucket meet, tbh 😂

Interesting day racing! Rode pretty average on the bike - I was still mentally a bit meh after crashing it a couple of times last time we went to T**e, so did take me longer than usual to feel comfortable. Lots of niggly mistakes and tense moments, but ended up with some okay times by the end of the day (and I kept it upright and finished all races…bonus!)

I think we managed to nab a second place on the sidecar in the first race, which was a good battle consider we attempted to launch off the start in neutral! Second race didn’t quite go our way - got a great start, led for half the first lap and had a bit of a gear change issue mid-corner which allowed Tony to get past. Chris followed him through but the gap unfortunately closed up and our sidecars ended in a bit of a tangle 😅 both Hayden and I highsided out of there (it was quite majestic, actually) and I think Geoff came off too. Bit battered and bruised but managed to get the sidecar going again once we noticed it was just the carb that had fallen off (typical of this sidecar too 😂). Third race went well, held a strong third the whole way round until the carb fell off with 3 laps to go. It refused to go back on the manifold so I did my best to hold it up against the manifold and swing at the same time - with varying results - and we limped over the finish…not last either 😂

Not the first time we’ve had carb-staying-put issues on this chair but now it’s starting to get annoying so I’ve committed to altering the manifold over the next week or two to get it sorted once and for all. And to fix the gear shifter.

A bit bruised and muscle sore now and ready to sleep for a week 😂😂

Didn’t take any photos today at all 😂 which I suppose goes to show how I was feeling today! Slept through my alarm, which wasn’t a great start and rushed to the track. Triple shot coffee barely made a dent on how tired I was 😅

Not my greatest day’s racing by any means. My head wasn’t really in the game at the start of the day (probably thanks to a couple of crashes at last month’s race meet) and there was a fair bit of mud on the track from the last peeps who used it. Rode terribly in practice and qualifying, qualified P9 but managed to redeem myself in the races. Managed a 4th and a 5th I think with the front runners pulling some crazy quick times. It was super fortunate that we managed to avoid the rain all day, so I got to race on my slicks - felt so much better than the wets (which are super old and needed replacing before I got my hands on them), so I was definitely not looking forward to having to fake some confidence on them. Thankfully a reasonably bitter wind dried the track out nicely and aside from the mud, it felt pretty nice and grippy.

Enjoyed some fun battles on the bucket with and the two Haydens too!

Brought the Hyo with me for a little tootle around but didn’t feel entirely comfortable on it today and wasn’t having much fun, so retired it after the first race. I’m very conscious that I can’t afford to fix the bike atm if I crash it, so I chickened out and decided to play it safe - I’ll keep it for when our season officially starts in a couple of months. Was a great turn out of CCMS riders though, which was awesome to see!

Planning to spend some time fixing the poor bucket bike this week. She came off second best after a few crashes at our last race meet a few weeks back. Might need to save up for some better wets too 😅

The Hyo felt so much quicker with a new set of coils 😅 definitely should have done that much earlier in the season!
