VFIT Personal Training VFIT Personal Training shares the journey of Vernon Downes becoming a personal trainer in Auckland, NZ. Kia ora & welcome!

Inspired by great trainers and coaches since my childhood, fitness has always been my passion. Training has been a central part of my life and an area of real strength. Studying with FIT College provides a convenient way of learning and developing my skills in a way that works around my other commitments. Checkout www.fitcollege.co.nz for more information! I have gained a lot of knowledge and exp

erience over the years and now is the time to share this by supporting others to reaching their personal fitness goals in their pursuit of good health and wellbeing. Through my work and journey with The Salvation Army, I have discovered the importance of friends, whānau, spirituality and healthy living. Te Whare Tapa Whā is a health model that I align myself with which also talks about the importance of physical health (te taha tīnana). Starting my own personal training business is the next step in my journey and I look forward to encouraging others to achieve their fitness goals! "All things are possible to those who believe"

Just a short note about my own personal training. This year has started off really well for me, setting those goals are really important (foundational). So this year I wanted to change up my training and add variety. I've added in the weights for strength and conditioning, I do our Ludus classes couple times a week for all round body conditioning and fitness, and I sneak in sprint training up Mt Eden which is really good for power and muscle development... hope your goals are solid??

Another one of my favorites in building muscle and strength for the legs, the lunge!! Primarily works the hamstrings although the quad's and glutes get their fair share of work as well...

Not only does it work the legs (Quad's and ham's) but also your abs and lower back muscles which stabilizes your trunk while performing the squat. Your upper-back, shoulders and arms balance the bar on your back. Many muscles work at the same time, not just your legs. The Squat is the king of all exercises. It works more muscles, with heavier weight, than more popular exercises like the Bench Press. It’s therefore more effective to gain overall strength and muscle quickly...

Cable rows are great for building the back muscle, traps, and rear delts. However, if not done properly you can cause serious injury. Remember this, in any weight lifting exercises strict form is paramount, there is no compromise...
