Your current flexibility and mobility is the way it is because of the story you tell yourself and the emotional state you associate with it.

I'm not flexible = Stretching hurts (pain) and mobility work is boring (frustration).

OR

I've always had tight hips = I feel unsafe stretching because it makes me unstable through my area.

These are two simple examples of how this might sound.

Here is the process I learnt many years ago from Tony Robbins that will influence your results

š’š­ššš­šž - š’š­šØš«š² - š’š­š«ššš­šžš š²

Focus on the process in this order:

š’š­ššš­šž - how you feel emotionally & energetically

š’š­šØš«š² - what you tell yourself based on how you feel

š’š­š«ššš­šžš š² - the actions & behaviours that are driven from your state & story.

Once you can understand this then you can start to apply to the behaviours your want to implement or change.

š’šØ, š°š”ššš­ š°šØš®š„š š²šØš® š«šžš¬š®š„š­š¬ š„šØšØš¤ š„š¢š¤šž š¢šŸ š²šØš® šœš”ššš§š šžš š²šØš®š« š¬š­ššš­šž & š¬š­šØš«š²?

These are bad foods I shouldn't eat. BUUUULLSH*T!
Here is how to eat biscuits and NOT feel guilty or judge yourself.

I ate these biscuits today because I wanted control and I wanted control because I was feeling stressed.
Out of control.
Helpless.
Indecisive.
Disconnected from myself.

Us males often stress eat. We think we eat these quick and easy foods because they are quick and easy, they give us a little hit of sugar, and adrenaline, which sparks up the energy systems for a while.

BUT!

That's not why we eat them. We do it because we are stressed and when we are stressed we are in our heads and using a lot of brain power.

Here is the mic drop moment...šŸŽ¤

š–šž šžššš­ š­š”šžš¬šž šŸšØšØšš¬ š­šØ šŸš®šžš„ šØš®š« š›š«ššš¢š§ š°š”š¢šœš” š°š¢š„š„ š”šžš„š© š®š¬ š­šØ š­š”š¢š§š¤ šØš®š« š°ššš² šØš®š­ šØšŸ š­š”šž š¬š­š«šžš¬š¬/š¬š¢š­š®ššš­š¢šØš§ š°šž ššš«šž šžš±š©šžš«š¢šžš§šœš¢š§š .

It's not for energy.
It's not because we are bored.
šˆš“'š’ šš„š‚š€š”š’š„ š˜šŽš” š–š€šš“ š“šŽ š†šˆš•š„ š˜šŽš”š‘ šš‘š€šˆš š…š”š„š‹ š’šŽ šˆš“ š‚š€š š‚š‘š„š€š“š„ š€ š‹šŽš†šˆš‚š€š‹ š–š€š˜ š“šŽ š†š„š“ šŽš”š“ šŽš… š’š“š‘š„š’š’.

You problem = stress.
Your solution = feed your brain to help it think of a solution.

Tell that your local nutritionist.

Now, why is this so important?

Because it frees you from the emotional position of feeling guilty, shaming or judging yourself for eating foods you 'should not eat'.

When your brain and body can comprehend that you are eating those foods for a logical reason, not an emotional reason, watch what happens to your stress. It plummets.

Better still, say out loud:
"I am eating this because I want to gain mental control by fuelling my brain so it can think of a logical solution"

When your stress plummets, and you're more aware of that stress and why you eat, watch what happens to how often you stress eat....it plummets.

Which means = less over eating. Better mental health. Less brain fog. Less energy lethargy. Better performance!

I got asked a question the other day that made me reflect on why my company, Titanium Fitness, exists.

To be fair, it's had a few reasons why in the 15 years since I created the name.

But, ultimately it's lead to where it is now and the most personal, heartfelt reason why I work with males.

šŒš² š”šØš§šžš¬š­ šØš©š¢š§š¢šØš§ š¢š¬ š­š”ššš­ š°šž ššš«šž š¬š„šØš°š„š² š„šØš¬š¢š§š  šŸššš« š­šØ š¦ššš§š² š¦ššš„šžš¬ & š«šØš„šž š¦šØššžš„š¬ š­šØ š”šØš©šžš„šžš¬š¬š§šžš¬š¬ ššš§š šš šš²š¢š§š  šØšŸ š©šžš«š¬šØš§ššš„ š¬š©š¢š«š¢š­ ššš§š š¬šØš®š„.

This shows up as these males not leading themselves & their own lives, not leading their families and eventually we lose them to illnesses and/or premature death simply because they lose themselves and who they are.

I'm here to use my knowledge and skills to stop that from happening and help show men they can take ownership of who they are.

I've seen myself and far to many other guys get overwhelmed by what they should or should not be doing, other opinions, to much information and allow themselves to think its too hard.

Ultimately, they end up not doing anything and sliding further back.

Cue 5, 10, 15 years later and they end up as the lost males described above, which has a flow on effect into society as a whole.

Just remember, your personal leadership doesn't have to be glamorous or world changing, but it does have to be personal to you.

Throw Back Thursday
Since we touched on where it all started last week with my youthful trainer profile from Les Mills, I thought we'd take a slight step forward to when I ventured out on my own in 2013.

Garages and frosty parks were my work place for a good amount of time after leaving the big gym.

I have an incredible amount of gratitude for these three individuals in these photos. I met them all at Les Mills as either PT clients or through my bootcamp sessions. They then continued to train with me for a considerable amount of time outside of the gym and introduced me to many other people who became clients along the way.

Monday's Mobility Minutes

When I do these routines I feel great and areas the I hold tension in, mainly my hips and lower back, feel fantastic....but I have to admit that I am not as diligent as what I used to be.

I often forget that the compounding effects of mobility work takes time to stick. But, posting these little snippets has reminded me of that fact. On my walks with my dog over the past couple of weeks I've been the weird looking one swinging my arms and legs in various directions and moving in random ways to help my mobility.

A tip to remember is that tissue mobility comes from nervous system safety. If your nervous system is feeling unsafe then it will show up in your tissues. This lack of safety can come from physical, psychological or emotional factors.

So, to aid your mobility....regulate your nervous system through breathing as you go into your mobility routines.

Throw Back Thursday.

Now on the opposite end of the timeline from yesterdays post.......this is a LOOOOOOONG throw all the way back to the very start!

Check out my profile from the personal trainer board at the Les Mills City club here in Christchurch.

I was 21 years young here in 2009 and fresh into the industry.

There was definitely a decent amount of ego and over confidence floating around in that head thinking I knew it all, especially when it came to running 🤣

It's funny how things have come full circle and I'm now back in Christchurch building Titanium Fitness up again.

Today we celebrate the birthday of this amazing man who is the hardest working member of the team.

He's been with us right from the beginning, is a true company man and, despite a couple of sabbaticals to who knows where, has always stayed true to his home turf here at Titanium Fitness.

To show our appreciation for his hard work, and to celebrate his birthday, Nathan will be gifted the the day off work today as well as some thankyou gifts from his favourite stores here in Christchurch, and of course some cake.

Monday's Mobility Minutes.
For now, the third and final mobility tip about your big toe.

This exercise is a staple when it comes to increasing activation and ground connection through the big toe. It helps to fire up your abductor hallucis, a muscle that runs along the inside of your foot and abducts, or pulls you big toe inwards.

Thing to check when it comes to your big toe:

🦶 Is there a natural space between your big toe and second toe?
🦶 Can you easily move your big toe independently or your other toes?
🦶 Can you press, not claw, your big toe into the ground to create stability?

When you've got improved big toe stability you also get:
āœ… Better balance because you have better connection with the ground.
āœ… Less chance of ankle, foot or knee issues in the long run.
āœ… Improved power and control in your walking and running.
šŸ•ŗ The best twisting skills on the dance floor!!

So, have a play around!
Plant that foot and twist away.

Throw Back Thursday.

Going back to 2019 when Anika's mother got in touch to ask about sports conditioning for her daughters golf performance.

We worked on a lot of injury prevention as well as generating, stability, mobility and then power for her golf swing.

We ended up lowering her handicap by several points over the duration we worked together.
