Happy World Oceans Day! 🌊🩵

June 8th is a symbolic day to celebrate our cradle, our healer, and our still-beautiful ocean.

But the truth is that every day is important when it comes to protecting it. It is our responsibility to stop the damage we have been causing and to help restore what has been lost.

There is still time to act, so please do your part. No single person can save the ocean alone, but if we all work together, I truly believe we can make a difference.

The ocean gives us so much. Let’s make sure future generations can experience its beauty too. 🩵🌊

✨ Curiosities about these beautiful ocean animals:

🫍 Male orcas often maintain strong social bonds with their mothers throughout their lives and usually remain within their maternal family groups.

🐟 The ocean sunfish (Mola mola) is the heaviest bony fish in the world, reaching over 2,000 kg.

🐋 Humpback whales undertake some of the longest migrations of any mammal, travelling thousands of kilometres between feeding and breeding grounds each year.

🐢 Leatherback turtles are listed as Vulnerable globally, and some populations are critically endangered. That’s why we feel incredibly lucky whenever we spot these ancient ocean travellers passing along our coast during summer.

📸 All of these videos were filmed from at least 50 metres away (and more than 100 metres from the whales), using optical zoom only.

🌊 Under New Zealand’s Marine Mammals Protection Regulations, we have a responsibility to respect wildlife by keeping our distance, slowing down around marine animals, and allowing them to behave naturally in their own environment.

💙 We are visitors in their home. Respect their space, keep your distance, and slow down.

Every wave, every reef, every creature is part of something bigger… something that sustains us all.

We have the awareness.
We have the power.
And we have no excuse to stand by.

April 14th was International Dolphin Day, and as huge dolphin lovers, we wanted to share a few of our favorite moments from our tour, observing these truly admirable creatures.

They always bring us so much joy—with their curiosity, playfulness, and courage. No matter how small they may be, they always take a moment to check on this strange species that simply love watching them.

We hold deep respect for their existence and for the environment they call home. That’s why we’re passionate about sharing scientific insights into their lives—so more people can understand both their importance and their fragility.

May we all learn to truly appreciate and protect these incredible beings, who remind us how to live with joy, even when the ocean gets rough. 🌊🐬

May the entire ocean be respected and conserved, so every species can thrive in this wonderful ecosystem. 🌊

Last week, we had an amazing trip planned to Tuhua Island (Mayor Island) with Ōtūmoetai College. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on our side, and we had to adjust our plans.

We were so grateful that the teachers agreed to our second option—Motiti Island. It turned out to be incredible for snorkeling; the visibility was better than expected, and everyone had such a great time.

In the end, it was a truly special day. The bumpy journey there was just a reminder that when we push through the tough moments, life often rewards us with amazing surprises… like the dolphins we saw on our way back 🐬🥹

It was also inspiring to see how engaged the students were, and the thoughtful, interesting content the teachers had prepared for them.

We can’t wait to share more experiences like this with future groups and continue inspiring ocean conservation.
