📱👏 Volunteer Spotlight – Social Media Team 👏📱

A huge thank you to us – our Social Media Committee—Jess, Jono, James, Mike & AI—for the incredible work they do behind the scenes to keep our community informed and engaged!

From promoting events and sharing results to posting photos and answering messages, countless hours go into showcasing our sport. Their digital efforts are a massive part of what keeps Motorsport Bay of Plenty visible, active, and growing.

A special shoutout to AI for sorting the photo of the committee—no easy task getting this bunch out from behind their PCs! 💻😆

The next time you see a post or update pop up on your feed, remember there’s a dedicated team (with a little tech help) making it happen.

Thank you to us, for keeping us all connected! 🏎️✨

🏁 The Volunteers Who Answer the Call 🏁

This Volunteer Week, we want to give a massive shout-out to everyone who answers the call when we ask for help.
Whether you’re marshalling on a corner, timing, setting up, or packing down, your willingness to step up makes all the difference. We have to say a huge thank you to 1 volunteer who takes leave from her job just to be at our events, Gayle you are a rock star 🌟

🏆 Volunteer of the Year Trophy 🏆
Did you know we have an annual award to recognise those who consistently help throughout the season? Last year’s winner was Alex, who volunteered at an incredible 8 out of our 13 events. Thank you for such a fantastic contribution to the club! 👏

The reality is simple: we cannot run events without you. Every event relies on a dedicated team working behind the scenes to keep competitors, officials, and spectators safe.

Want to get involved?
Next time the call goes out, consider putting your hand up. It’s a great way to learn more about motorsport, meet awesome people, and give back to our community.

To all our volunteers, thank you. We appreciate every single hour you give.

💬 Interested in joining the team for a future event? Comment below or send us a message, we'd love to have you!

🏁 Volunteer Spotlight – Event Organiser/Secretaries 🏁

Today we're recognising our Event Organisers and Secretaries – Joanne, Kristi, Linda & Kirsty.

While the rest of us are thinking about going fast, they're busy dealing with TMPs, council requirements, permits, paperwork, competitor documentation, and all the behind-the-scenes details needed to get an event approved and running, often months in advance.

On event day, they're often the first smiling face you see as you line up for documentation. Then, while everyone else is out enjoying the action, they're tucked away in the caravan, focused on keeping records, results, and event administration accurate and up to date.

As cars thunder past outside and engines echo through the service park, they're hard at work making sure every result is recorded correctly. Even when the occasional knock on the door breaks their concentration, they somehow manage to keep everything running smoothly.

And for the bravest of them they even get the privilege of driving the MBOP van – probably the slowest vehicle at any motorsport event! 🚐😂

Thank you for everything you do behind the scenes. While you might miss much of the action, our events simply wouldn't happen without you.

Meet Your Committee

The truth is, there’s a huge amount of work that happens long before the first car even fires into life. From planning and admin, sponsorship, finances, permits, road closures, safety documentation, volunteer coordination, communications… and yes, answering emails that somehow generate even more emails… your committee is constantly working behind the scenes to keep the club running smoothly.

And of course, we can’t forget the very important job of dealing with Motorsport NZ paperwork… which is a bit like motorsport itself - fast-paced, technical, and occasionally going slightly sideways. 😅

Our committee is made up of passionate people who give their time because they genuinely care about motorsport and our club. While a few of the more time-intensive roles receive a small contribution to help support the workload, the heart of the committee is very much volunteer-driven.
We do it all for one reason – YOU, our members.

Today, we’d like to give a special shoutout to our very own David & Linda, along with all of our Life Members. Their dedication, support, and countless volunteer hours have helped shape our club into what it is today.

From opening up their office for meetings, providing storage for the club van and event trailer, to always being there to lend a hand, offer advice, or help a member in need—their contribution goes far beyond what most people see.

Our Life Members have spent years giving back to the sport we all love, building the strong foundation that allows our club and events to continue to thrive.
👏 We genuinely couldn’t do it without them.

Volunteer Spotlight – Clerk of the Course & Scrutineers

When you arrive at an event, there’s a good chance our Clerk of the Course (CotC) has already been on site for hours. In fact, they’re often the first to arrive and the last to leave.

The Clerk of the Course plays a vital role in ensuring every event runs safely, efficiently, and in line with regulations. From coordinating officials and volunteers, managing the event schedule, and responding to issues throughout the day—this role carries an enormous level of responsibility.

Equally important are our dedicated Scrutineers. Before any competitor heads out onto the course, the scrutineering team carefully inspects each vehicle to ensure it meets all required safety standards. Many of them are also competitors themselves, arriving early to prepare for their own day before checking—sometimes—half the field.

Their attention to detail helps protect competitors, officials, volunteers, and spectators alike.

A huge thank you to all of our Clerks of the Course and Scrutineers who generously give their time, knowledge, and expertise. Motorsport simply couldn’t happen without you.

🏁 Clerks of the Course
David Loughlin, Roger Bailey, Mike Torr, Jonathan Lee, Joanne Kapua, Rick Finucane, Andrew Greville, Linda Loughlin

🔧 Scrutineers
James West, Colin Goodwin, Phil Macquarie, Mike Torr, Rick Finucane, David Loughlin

We're kicking off National Volunteer Week!

This week, we're shining the spotlight on the incredible people who make our club what it is.

From event officials and organisers to marshals, committee members, social media volunteers, and everyone in between, our club simply couldn't operate without the time, effort, and passion of our volunteers.

Over the coming week, keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram pages as we shine a light on some of the volunteers whose dedication helps make our events happen and keep the club moving forward.

When you see a post featuring one of our volunteers, be sure to jump into the comments and show them some appreciation. A simple thank you can go a long way.

Here's to the volunteers who give their time so others can enjoy the sport we all love.

☀️ What a fantastic day at the Harray Rd Hillclimb! ☀️

We were treated to perfect weather, a great crowd, and an impressive field of 30 competitors. No one could better the records which will stand for all time.

A huge thankyou to the Te Puke High School fundraiser BBQ. It was great to see so many competitors, volunteers, and spectators supporting them.

A special shout-out goes to Nick, our Volunteer of the Day! 🏆 Keeping traffic under control was a full-time job, and Nick did an outstanding job ensuring everyone stayed safe.

Volunteer Week kicks off this week, so keep an eye on our social media channels as we celebrate further.

What an awesome day at our Motorsport Bay of Plenty Junior Driver Training last weekend!

The driver progression across the day was immense, and it was great to see everyone building confidence, learning new skills, and having an absolute ball behind the wheel.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day run so smoothly:

A special mention goes to Dennis Tereshchenko, who was awarded Helper of the Event for his awesome effort and support throughout the day.

Days like this are what club motorsport is all about, giving juniors a safe, supportive, and fun environment to learn car control and grow their confidence.

Massive thanks to everyone who came along, helped out, and supported the next generation of drivers.
