STR Motorsport made their way down to Hampton Downs over the weekend for the Grand Final of Megamotorsport NZ Pro Series round 4.

With challenging weather conditions in the forecast, we set out for a practise and Baby Driver (Aidan) then qualified us again on pole! The pressure was now on Hamish to start...

Starting on a damp track and wet tyre choice, hoping for rain, it didn't come, and we started going backwards!

The call came from the team, unscheduled pitstop, BOX BOX! Quick tyre change and back out on track. With another tyre choice (which proved to be not so choice), we struggled to keep the car on track and slowed again to stay off the wall... Now the heavens opened, another pit stop, another tyre change and Aidan took the reins, clawing his way back to the front.

With 20 mins to go the car lost drive and we had only 5th and 6th gear to play with... skill prevailed and Aidan brought the car home to win the Mega Pro 3 hour enduro and also claim victory overall for the 4 rounds.

The team then swung into action again and replaced a broken CV just in time for R-dog Williams (Rory) to get out and catch the Firecracker field just before the start... in absolutely atrocious weather conditions he weaved his way through the field to finish 2nd.

Hampton Downs.

We only had to truck just down the road Saturday to do battle in the 3 hour endurance and 40 lap Firecracker sprint.

A few changes to the car for this round and some new team apparel and we're looking like the cats pyjamas!

Rory was first out in practice to cut some laps as he was full race slick virgin.

We then sent out our #2 pro driver, Aidan, to shoot for pole and he didn't disappoint.

Rory was back in the hot seat to start the race on pole. Off to a great start and putting seconds on the other competitors with each lap.

All was going positively swimmingly until an hour 10mins in and that dreaded call on the radio (there's a noise from the gearbox)

Oh s**t, Box Box!
The car comes in and we swing into action. Car up on stands, we run her up, and the box is rattling it's dags internally. Gearbox out and a new one back in and ready to roll in an hour and 32 mins. Lockie suited up and rolled out to finish the 3 hour and bank some much needed points, he also picked out the fastest lap time of the day! Quick car check and fuel up and Aidan lined up for the Firecracker 🧨 starting from the back of the grid again thanks to a rubbish marble draw. Aidan settled in to the task at hand and started to carve through the field. With only 40 laps to run he couldn't quite catch the front runners but ran super consistent and close to the breakout time crossing the line third in class. Fortunately, his fellow competitors had broken out of their times which handed him the win!

Rinse and repeat hopefully for round 4 Hampton Downs International track 29th August.
