Lets talk health!

What do you think being healthy means??

The answer might not be what you expect.

Being healthy means many different factors of life.

Let me explain -

💪 Physical health 💪

Means what?
- We are eating as close to nature as possible, and balanced between carbs, fats and proteins.

- We are moving our bodies in all different ways, we are building muscle, working on mobility, working on strength, working on cardio for heart health.

🧠 Mental health 🤯

Means what??
- This is a huge personal factor. Often this means:
- Are we setting goals for ourselves and working on achieving them.
- Are we self reflecting.
- Are we being mindful with our words, our actions, our thoughts.
-Are we being kind to ourselves and to the ones around us that we love??
- Are we practicing the other 4 elements of overall health?? If we are, our mental health improves as a result.

🧘‍♀️ Spiritual health 🧘

Means what?? I don't mean everyone going to church in Sundays, either.

- Spiritual health is personal again, for everyone. Maybe it is going to church on Sunday for you??

Or

- Maybe it's sitting down with a hot cup of cacao or fruit tea at the end of the night after a long day, and reminiscing.

- Perhaps it's yoga or meditation?

- Could be grounding ourselves in nature, talking to our inner child to heal ourselves, visiting our loved ones at the grave, going through old photos of loved ones or of ourselves, to reminisce memories, it could be travelling to a place of personal significance, it could be art etc.

Anything that brings us inner peace and helps us release our trauma and emotions or inner demons. Either way, this is a personal journey.

👫 Social Health 🤼‍♀️

Means what?

- Having people in your life that you can call family, that you can call friends.

Did you know that loneliness is the number 1 killer? That's why social health is super important.

With the age of technology, we have lost how to socialize. Let's practice socializing again, face to face, human to human. Let's defeat loneliness!

🏞️ Our whenua (or land and roots) 🌋

Means what??

- Connecting with our roots; regardless of race or culture, regardless of maori or Pakeha, connecting with our roots means finding ourselves, finding where we come from. How did we get here today? What made you, you?
DNA and roots is a huge part of who we are. Where is home to you? Let's visit that and really think about that for a moment.

- I always feel I have a huge connection with water, especially the ocean. It brings me peace and joy, happiness and connection. Maybe because I was brought up around it.

Do you see a theme here?? Allll of these health elements connect to one another, you can't have one without the other. The reason why in New Zealand we use a house to describe health, is because we cannot have one element without the others. Otherwise our house will crumble and break - just like you!

CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM ✨

This is such an important part of training and getting results!

You could be doing everything "correctly".... Nutrition and working out right etc.

And still not seeing results.

Ask yourself where you sit on the above scale.

Obviously getting to the root cause of your burnout on the central nervous system is the first thing you should do, and finding the coping tools and strategies that help you.

Could be journaling, meditation, yoga, walking, connecting with nature (important one) etc.

However, while you're recovering from central nervous system burnout, adapt your workouts to fit.

Why??

No good doing high intensity workouts when your body can't recover well. You won't see results, because your muscles get micro tears in the workout, and in the recovery, it builds up and repairs. So if your body is not recovering, it's not building the muscle back up.

If your CNS is in overdrive, your body will just be sore and tired and you won't get your muscle gains.

This doesn't mean we stop working out, it means we adapt our intensity.

Check in with your body, your nutrition, your workouts and analyse where you sit right now.

If you need more help with this, get yourself a qualified coach who can help.

Palloff press - one of my favourite core exercises

Strenghtens the transverse abdominus, because we are resisting the rotation from the side the cable is on.

Why is it important to strengthen the transverse abdominus?

- The transverse abdominus muscles are known as our corset muscles, because they stabilize our hips, spine and pelvis.

- Improves back pain, posture, and supporting pelvic floor health.

- It works closely with the pelvic floor to manage issues like incontinence and core dysfunction.

❤️‍🔥 CLIENT SPOTLIGHT ❤️‍🔥

Meet my client, Olivia! 🩷💜💙💚

🤩 What is your lifestyle like: 🤩

- I work 2 jobs
- My daughter is in primary school and has after school commitments every week, 3 times a week that require my time more than my own commitments. It makes working mum life a busy tight schedule for my own personal things like workouts.

🤩 How do you manage to fit in exercise and looking after yourself? 🤩

- I squeeze in at least 2 workouts a week, if I can't make it to the gym, I squeeze it in at home. Sometimes my daughter exercises with me if she has FOMO, haha but as a mum you just do what you got to do to get your time in with a tight schedule.

🤩 What are your goals?

- To help strengthen my bulging disc in my lower back as for me that’s my personal priority without my back strong I cannot keep up with my daughters' commitments if I am in pain, and lose bodyfat and gain muscle.

🤩 How have your goals been on the road to being achieved, what value have you found so far, in being coached with Haylee? 🤩

- Habit training has been perfect for me as I've always been a huge snacker of anything I see, I am qualified baker so have always been around food for the past 8 years and I now work in a daycare as the cook creating whatever I feel like making, I have had to learn self-control and stop snacking on the food I am making for the children.

- My program is perfectly adapted to my bulging disc injury, Haylee has worked with my physiotherapist to help me rehabilitate safely, while getting stronger.

- I asked Haylee for help and within the short period of 3 weeks I can already feel changes to my body for example less inflammation and way more sustained energy with a high protein habit change, lost 2kg and can now fit into a slightly smaller clothing size.

First aid complete for another 2 years!!

Why is this important?? So I can keep my clients safe, of course!

It is better to have it, and not need it. Then it is to not have it, and need it. Just like the defib in our gym at Badass Training!

Of course we never want anything to happen to anybody, but you just never know!

Anyone can have a medical episode, even if you are healthy and fit and never had any history of medical conditions.

This also keeps me REPs' registered, which is also super important for me, as this is how I stay on top of professional development, every single trainer should be continuing on with further study, no matter how experienced or qualified a trainer may be! Science changes all the time, and let's face it, you NEVER know it ALL! The human body is complicated, after all.
