Lets talk health!
What do you think being healthy means??
The answer might not be what you expect.
Being healthy means many different factors of life.
Let me explain -
💪 Physical health 💪
Means what?
- We are eating as close to nature as possible, and balanced between carbs, fats and proteins.
- We are moving our bodies in all different ways, we are building muscle, working on mobility, working on strength, working on cardio for heart health.
🧠 Mental health 🤯
Means what??
- This is a huge personal factor. Often this means:
- Are we setting goals for ourselves and working on achieving them.
- Are we self reflecting.
- Are we being mindful with our words, our actions, our thoughts.
-Are we being kind to ourselves and to the ones around us that we love??
- Are we practicing the other 4 elements of overall health?? If we are, our mental health improves as a result.
🧘♀️ Spiritual health 🧘
Means what?? I don't mean everyone going to church in Sundays, either.
- Spiritual health is personal again, for everyone. Maybe it is going to church on Sunday for you??
Or
- Maybe it's sitting down with a hot cup of cacao or fruit tea at the end of the night after a long day, and reminiscing.
- Perhaps it's yoga or meditation?
- Could be grounding ourselves in nature, talking to our inner child to heal ourselves, visiting our loved ones at the grave, going through old photos of loved ones or of ourselves, to reminisce memories, it could be travelling to a place of personal significance, it could be art etc.
Anything that brings us inner peace and helps us release our trauma and emotions or inner demons. Either way, this is a personal journey.
👫 Social Health 🤼♀️
Means what?
- Having people in your life that you can call family, that you can call friends.
Did you know that loneliness is the number 1 killer? That's why social health is super important.
With the age of technology, we have lost how to socialize. Let's practice socializing again, face to face, human to human. Let's defeat loneliness!
🏞️ Our whenua (or land and roots) 🌋
Means what??
- Connecting with our roots; regardless of race or culture, regardless of maori or Pakeha, connecting with our roots means finding ourselves, finding where we come from. How did we get here today? What made you, you?
DNA and roots is a huge part of who we are. Where is home to you? Let's visit that and really think about that for a moment.
- I always feel I have a huge connection with water, especially the ocean. It brings me peace and joy, happiness and connection. Maybe because I was brought up around it.
Do you see a theme here?? Allll of these health elements connect to one another, you can't have one without the other. The reason why in New Zealand we use a house to describe health, is because we cannot have one element without the others. Otherwise our house will crumble and break - just like you!
