IRONMAN New Zealand is the oldest race in world outside of the World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.

IRONMAN is owned and organised by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC). WTC is a Tampa-based company recognized for athletic excellence, distinguished events and quality products. It is with sadness we acknowledge the passing of former Taupō District Mayor David Trewavas.

Serving Taupō District Council from 2013 to 2025, David was a huge supporter and advocate of IRONMAN, present on race day and intrinsic in supporting the event each year. He was also integral in supporting the hosting of the 2024 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Taupō, bringing thousands of IRONMAN athletes to the beautiful Taupō region. Pictured here is David holding the finish tape for IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion Jelle Geens on race day.

Our thoughts are with David’s family and the district of Taupō.
