The Taumarunui Silverback Boxing Academy (TSBA) has been running in Taumarunui since November 2015. Boxing for our kids is the draw card to pull them in, it’s not about the fighting, it’s about respect, learning to work
together and looking after each other. At the TSBA we work on attitudes and values and we also want to work with
our at risk youth in the community to help make our community a pos

itive place. Rather than ostracising them we
are getting them involved they are associating with a group of like minded kids. The club’s aim is to foster Taumarunui boxing stars in the making; we have so much raw talent and natural ability in
our community, this is a great way to support our local kids.

🥊 NORTH ISLAND GOLDEN GLOVES UPDATE 🦍

🦍 Levi Houpapa-Rees was first up for Team TSBA today. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the result we were after, but there were still plenty of positives to take away from the bout. Every time our athletes step into the ring, they gain valuable experience and continue to grow.

🦍 Chance Te Ahuru was next up and put on a great performance, showing plenty of heart, skill, and determination. The result may not always tell the full story, but what matters is the work being done behind the scenes and the progress being made each time these boys step through the ropes.

🦍 Keez Maihi followed with an impressive performance, securing the win. Keez boxed with confidence and composure, earning his place through to the next round. A fantastic effort and a well-deserved result.

🦍 Kagen Seymour also got the result in a solid performance. There were some really good moments throughout the bout, along with a few areas to work on as he prepares for the next stage of the competition. That's what these tournaments are all about, learning, adapting, and continuing to improve with every fight.

🦍 Izabella Te Moananui-Raukawa ended up being unopposed after her opponent withdrew. A tough one for Izzy, who has been putting in the hours in the gym and doing everything asked of her in preparation for this tournament. While she didn't get the opportunity to showcase her hard work in the ring this time, we know her opportunity will come, and we are proud of the commitment and dedication she continues to show.

The reality is our athletes are only going to keep getting better. They continue to learn, develop, and gain valuable experience every time they compete. We take the lessons, celebrate the wins, and keep building.

Onwards and upwards as we look ahead to Day 2 tomorrow.

A special trip coming up this weekend for our TSBA whānau as Head Coach Vitale Perez and family head over to Samoa during Independence celebrations to acknowledge and celebrate Kealey Perez’s recent World Championship success representing Samoa in Thailand.

Moments like these don’t happen overnight. They come from years of hard work, sacrifice, support, and belief. We are proud to see Kealey’s journey being recognised and celebrated alongside family and community.

🥊 TEAM TSBA HEADING TO NORTH ISLAND GOLDEN GLOVES 🦍

Team TSBA have six boxers stepping into the ring this weekend at the annual North Island Golden Gloves in Tauranga.

Representing the team are:

🥊 Levi Houpapa-Rees
🥊 Izabella Te Moananui-Raukawa
🥊 Keez Maihi
🥊 Seth Kerridge

Leading the team is Head Coach Francis Seymour, with support from Joel Rees, Zach Te Ahuru, Charles Raukawa and our amazing camp mums and support crew who play such a huge role behind the scenes, helping organise the team, preparing meals, supporting the boxers, and making sure everyone is looked after throughout the weekend.

The Golden Gloves is one of New Zealand’s premier boxing events and a major stepping stone for our athletes. This year also brings an exciting opportunity, with Golden Gloves winners potentially being selected to compete at the New Zealand Golden Gloves, being held in the South Island later this year.

Our team have put in countless hours, week after week, day after day showing commitment, discipline, and dedication preparing for this event.

Now it’s time to trust the work, back yourselves, enjoy the experience, and do what you do best.

Izzy is back… 🦍🥊

Izabella Te Moananui-Raukawa steps back through the ropes this weekend as she takes the ring at ABA in Auckland.

Every bout is another step forward, another chance to grow, learn, and gain experience and we are proud to see Izzy continuing to put in the mahi and back herself.
