Hole in ONE!
It was a memorable club day yesterday for Brooke Haami, who plays off an 18 handicap. Using her driver on the par-3 12th, Brooke’s ball simply rolled up and into the hole. Congratulations, Brooke — we’re all thrilled for you!

Forty players turned out in excellent conditions yesterday for the Kamaru Rosebowl. The annual trophy is awarded to the top men’s and women’s Stableford scorers, with this year’s honours going to Barry Littler on 36 points and Carol Plowman on 37. Congratulations to both our winners!

The Rodger Bartlett Memorial Trophy for Best Gross was claimed by our member Shaam Bhullar, carding an impressive 67 in Saturday’s qualifying round. Playing off a 1 handicap, Shaam’s net 66 also secured him the John Doogue Memorial Trophy. A superb double—congratulations Shaam.
The King Country Championship division produced a thrilling battle between Robby Turnbull (Remuera) and Larsen Michael (Whitford Park). While Robby played off +8, and Larsen +2 in Saturday’s qualifying round, the Championship Division is played flat off the stick. At the 18th Robby’s tee shot stopped just off the back of the green and for those of you who know our course, that’s one heck of a straight drive! The two were all square after that hole, so it was a rewind to come down the 18th again to the delight of the gallery. Ultimately, Robby prevailed in what was a fantastic contest between two outstanding young golfers.
The Tarrangower Handicap (Calcutta division) was won by Nick Hibbert (Auckland Regional Police), with our own Jason Hapi runner up.
Travelling from Australia for his first attendance in this tournament, Daniel “Patch” Ngaronga took out the Ruapehu Division, with Benn Gunn (St Clair Dunedin) finishing second.
The Ngauruhoe Handicap was won by young Luke Hibbert (Avondale), ahead of local contender John Filleul.
The Piriaka Handicap—affectionately known as the Swamp Division played by the bottom 16 qualifiers—was claimed by former local Gordon Bai (Warkworth), with our own Richard Hall finishing runner up.
Congratulations to all our major winners and to everyone who took home prizes. We look forward to seeing you again next year.

The Triple T was held on the 4th and 5th of May in fabulous conditions, with 107 ladies from across the North Island playing an 18 hole round each day. The course put on a grand show in its bold autumn colours, and players shared wonderful feedback about the course, the views, the food, and the hospitality. It wouldn’t be a tournament without our lovely visitors — thank you for choosing to come to Taumarunui. A special note of appreciation also goes to our sponsor, Property Brokers Taumarunui, and also the committee, members and helpers plus grounds staff who together make it all happen.

Meet Barrie Coleman from Christchurch. Barrie is on a mission following personal tragedy to raise awareness around su***de and depression and has been in fundraising for I Am Hope playing by every golf course in the country. Yesterday he played Turangi then Taumarunui bringing the total to 377. You can see Barrie’s progress on his FB page Saving Butts Sinking Putts and there is a Give-A-Little page with the same name. The motor home he’s travelling in will be raffled for more funds upon completion. All the best for the remainder of your journey Barrie!

Hazel Hamm’s ball was missing in action this afternoon on the par 5 14th hole. Playing off a 6 handicap, Hazel used a 7 iron following a brilliant drive and neither Hazel nor her playing partners could locate her ball….and then, there it was - in the hole!!! An ALBATROSS!! Congratulations Hazel, you are a star!!

An anonymous visiting weekend golfer managed to snap some truly spectacular shots and sent them in. Here’s clear evidence that the Committee’s top‑secret owl‑and‑crocodile initiative is working as planned! Congratulations to the Committee for getting the job done!

We're not sure what the crocs will eat once the ducks are gone, therefore it may be best to avoid the pond in future 😜

The Heaps Tournament, again kindly sponsored by Taumarunui New World, saw a shade under 100 entries, a pretty good turnout considering the forecast didn’t look encouraging. Not so many great scores but those that did well stood out. Thanks to Chris Martin, Taumarunui New World owner who was on hand to present the trophies.

Best Net Over the Field – ex local Rhondda Bruce (Ngahinepouri) 67

Best Gross Over the Field – playing off +4 was Jason McIntosh (Taupo) 66

Men’s Best Stableford – Sam Archibald (Taumarunui) 39

Ladies Best Stableford – Sue Burton (Taumarunui) 36

Special recognition must go to Paul Dowie (who shoulda gone to Specsavers), for putting his name on the Ladies Closest to the Pin in 2 on a novelty hole. So good we just had to put a dress on him!

The men's shootout was decided yesterday. The eventual winner was once again Shaam Bhullar playing off a 1 handicap in what was a repeat performance of last year. Runner-up was first timer Brad Clark, coming back from a few shaky holes along the way. Congratulations Shaam, Brad and all participants! Special thanks to our sponsor Cameron Elliot of Property Brokers Taumarunui.
