He aitua, he rāhui.

Not long after a rāhui was laid at Tangimoana earlier this month following the deaths of two men, we received the devastating news that a child was caught at sea yesterday afternoon at the Rangitīkei River mouth and has tragically passed away.

We extend our aroha and condolences to the grieving whānau, and acknowledges the emergency services, volunteers who responded.

A rāhui has been placed by Ngāti Apa and Ngāti Raukawa on the Rangitīkei River mouth at Tangimoana Beach following this tragic loss of a life. This asks people to restrict themselves from utilising the Rangitīkei river mouth for a two-week period to acknowledge the tragedy and allow time for mourning and healing before recommencing normal use. The rāhui will be lifted at the end of this two week period.
