The NBS Tinbum Triathlon is held in late summer from the Pohara Top 10 Holiday Park in Pohara, Golden Bay, New Zealand.

The swim, cycle, and beach run distances are family friendly.

What a great outcome from the 2026 NBS Tinbum Triathlon!
With over 130 participants, this year’s event was our biggest since the pre-Covid years, and it was awesome to see so many new faces out there alongside returning competitors and teams.

Earlier this week, members of our Tinbum organising committee were excited to present a cheque for $2,500 to Mohua Social Services. We’re so proud that this fun community event not only brings people together, but also gives back to our local community.

Massive thanks to all our supporters, spot prize sponsors, race crew, volunteers and marshals. Your incredible generosity and hard work are what make the NBS Tinbum possible.

Tinbum made the front page of this week’s GB Weekly! 🥳
Huge thanks to everyone who raced, volunteered, sponsored and supported behind the scenes – it’s a real community effort every year.
This was also our first year using a new online registration and timing system to speed up check-in and help us get accurate results out quickly. We’re already thinking about improvements for next year. 💛
Thanks to all our supporters, committee and marshals for your mahi. We could not have done this without you. Thanks Alistair Hughes for your event report and for participating in the NBS Tinbum for the third year running!!

Friendly tips to help your race go smoothly on Sunday:

Stay hydrated while you’re waiting around at the start — the day can warm up quickly. If breakfast isn’t your thing, bring a snack and have something about 30–60 minutes before you start.

Don’t forget sunscreen — we’ll have some available at the registration desk — and take a moment to check the course map beside registration if you’re unsure about anything.

Please make sure you’re around for the pre-race briefing.

Swimmers
If you can, jump in the water before the start to get used to the temperature and take a few strokes to settle yourself.
When you finish the swim and head through the campground, make sure a marshal sees or hears your race number.

Transition tips
A few small tricks that make life easier:
• Put a towel beside your bike
• Talc or baking soda helps dry your feet quickly
• Pre-tie laces (elastic laces are even better)
• Have a quick drink before heading out on the bike

You might also want to bring a water bottle for the ride, or leave one with your bike.

On the run
There will be water available at the Takaka Golf Course if you need it, and once you hit Selwyn Street you’re nearly there!

One new thing this year
We’re trialling a new race tracker system, so the transition areas will be a bit more funnelled than usual. This helps us make sure every bib number is captured and results are accurate.
Thanks for rolling with the improvements.

Most importantly — enjoy the day, cheer each other on, and we’ll see you afterwards at Molly B’s for prize giving.

It’s shaping up to be a great Tinbum. 🌞

🏊‍♀️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♀️ We’re excited to share that thanks to the collective efforts of our 2025 NBS Tinbum Triathlon athletes, supporters, and sponsors, we’ve donated $2500 to Mohua Social Services, helping them continue their vital work in our community.
🙏A huge thank you to our incredible team who worked behind the scenes to make this happen. From setting up the course to managing registrations and cheering on participants, your support was invaluable. The Tinbum Triathlon wouldn’t be the same without you!
We’re grateful to everyone who helped make our community event possible, and we can’t wait to do it all again next year!

☀️What an amazing day that was on Sunday!! Despite it being very hot for the run, from the feedback on the day it seems everyone felt the race was "fun" and they would "do it again" next year!

🎉Hoorah!! Well done to every single one of you who participated, sponsored and/or volunteered! Individual and team race results have been emailed to you today. And PDFs of the results can also be dowloaded from our website at https://goldenbaytinbum.blogspot.com/search/label/Results
