Great turn out for our muster this arvo. Itโ€™s looking like we will have two junior teams to begin the season end of October ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

So great to have Michaela from Northern Districts join us and run the kids though some fun games and skill session. She will also be running the Super Smash Hub through Tairua School so keep an eye out for those details to come.

We would love to see some girls get involved in cricket this year ๐Ÿ

We have a jam packed weekend of cricket this weekend!! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

Starting off this afternoon (Friday) 4pm we have Junior Cricket prizegiving followed by a fun game of cricket with the kids at Tairua School.

Saturday the Tairua Kingfish take on Mercury Bay Marlins up in Whitianga at 10am.

Tairua Marlins have defaulted this week due to lack of numbers, kudos to everyone putting in the hard work.

Tairua Kahawai have a bye.

Sunday Tairua Kingfish Riverbend Squad have a rematch game against Western Bay of Plenty Bronzies over in Katikati. Although Bronzies have a habit of eating Kingfish in the water, let's see if our land based Kingies can turn the tables! ๐Ÿ

Our Kingfish battled Te Aroha and both teams battled long spongy wet grass (aka not ideal for Cricket ๐Ÿค”) at Kennedy park! Despite this making runs hard to get it was an entertaining game with another win for the Kingfish who are just getting better and better. ๐Ÿ

An amazing high scoring thriller at the Mercury Bay Ovalโ€ฆ

The tension was unbearable as the mighty Marlins won the toss and threw down the gauntlet by putting the Mercury Bay Cooks into batโ€ฆ

The blade flashed and the willow cracked on leather as the Marlins fought to contain a powerful Cooks batting lineupโ€ฆ

Rohan Jamu lead the Marlins strongly in the field with a positive attitude keeping the mighty Marlins in the fight through-out.

Maverick Reynolds bowled a very demanding line and length AND then were some strong performances at the crease from Jeral George who bowled 2 overs for 5 runs, and also from Juan who nailed a good length on a tricky wicket.

Set an extremely challenging 199โ€ฆ the Marlins never gave up and were in the hunt for long periods of the gameโ€ฆ

Gabriel Talbot, smashed 3 fours and hit a career high 26 from 27 balls.

Mikal Coleman climbed into the Cookโ€™s bowling hitting a delectable straight 4 and smashing another one through square.

A number of players were strong with the willow and smacked the ball to the boundary, including Rohan Jamu, Jeral George, Maverick Reynolds and Isaac Thomsen.

The Marlins have never hit the ball so strongly.

In the end the Marlins fell just short, but it was a batting effort that every team member should be proud of!

It's been a tough summer for many of us and kids Cricket is no different. The Whangamata hill underslip was bad enough to cause teams from Te Aroha and Morrinsville to default this last weekend. Not that it deterred our dedicated and talented kids though. For the second time this year it was mate vs mate as Tairua battled Tairua down at the school. ๐Ÿ

We had some great duals, big hits and flying stumps on a perfect day. But most of all we had representatives from all three teams playing together - ages 6 through 12 playing and learning together. As a community and club we should be proud of how all of the older more experienced kids supported and encouraged those who will be our future stars. Cricket can be a tough, at times unfair and even unforgiving game but when played in this spirit every kid out there loved it. The way they supported (and competed with) each other was a treat to see and the ultimate reward for the time spent developing and supporting these kids. ๐Ÿ’– Give any of the kids you know who play a pat on the back if you see them.

Thanks as always for the support of the parents and sponsors. A special mention and thanks goes to Mitesh from Tairua Superette who again brought along ice cold drinks for the kids and Geoff for shouting hot chips at the change of innings. There were some very happy faces in the sun๐Ÿ™. Finally, fingers crossed we get games this weekend with the Kahawai and Marlins in Mercury Bay and the Kingfish hosting Te Aroha at Kennedy park in Pauanui.

The Marlins and Kingfish are playing a mash up game down at TairuaSchool Tairua!! Come down and support them ๐Ÿโค๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ
