It’s nearly time! We are so excited to bring this to Golfers in New Zealand. This Thursday we will release our app to allow you to track your own journey of playing every golf course. One question: Where have you golfed?

On our journey to play every golf course in New Zealand February took us to Wairoa, Palmerston North and Carterton Golf Clubs.

At Wairoa we listened to your comments and created a video seeing how far ahead Stephen would need to start to beat a pro with no shots. It was such a fun course for this format, big drop-offs and tough par 3’s, a great country course.

Palmerston North we attempted a tough format, tee flicking our way round this course and trying to miss as many trees as possible. We met a promising young golfer during our round too, keep your eye out for his name in the future.

At Carterton we entrusted chat gpt to create our video for the front 9 and played a break par alternate shot on the back 9. Such a beautiful setting and in great condition, this is a must play amongst the country courses in New Zealand.

January recap ⛳

We are playing every golf course in New Zealand. Here’s the 5 courses from January:

Ōpōtiki Golf Club
Ōpōtiki was the first course in our January series and where we kicked off the Fairways of Whakatāne trip. A country course, $40 to play and great value for 18 holes. Home of “The Wrecker”, one of the tightest fairways we played. Miss it and you’re either OB or in the trees.

Ōhope Beach Golf Links
One of the best links courses we’ve played on the channel, especially for only $75. We had the pleasure of being joined by GM Ryan Walker on the front 9 as we tried to break 60. The back 9 out on the peninsula was truly spectacular. Probably our favourite course of the month.

Whakatāne Golf Club
This course will always stay close to us. A beautiful setting, excellent layout, and brilliant condition. This is where Sean and Stephen finally broke 60. That was a great day and one we won’t forget.

Taihape Golf Club
We attempted to break 60 again and came close. The course was just fabulous, with amazing views in a peaceful setting. Only $30 to play and incredible value. Home of what Arnold Palmer once said was the best natural par 3 in the world.

Murupara Golf Club
Set in a peaceful rural setting, Murupara is a good 18-hole layout. The course has some great par 3s and awesome doglegs. The standout is the par 3 16th, which requires a shot over the river to a small green.

63 of 378 complete. 315 to go.

⬇️Course 61 of 378 ⛳

Taihape boasts what many call the best 12th hole in New Zealand, and Arnold Palmer once said it was the best natural par 3 he had ever played.

We played here during the week on a quiet day. $30 a round which is incredible value for a course that is so well kept. A strong volunteer team do a great job looking after the course.

With tight doglegs and plenty of elevation changes it’s a fun golf course for all levels. Set in beautiful surrounds and well worth a stop.

We tried to break 60 again after shooting 59 at Whakatāne last week. This course tested us.

Are there any better natural par 3 courses in NZ?

This week a new course entered our rankings and went straight to the top of its bracket.

We have now played 59 courses and rank them based on how we found each one when we played it. We rank courses on four key areas: condition, challenge, facilities, and value for money.

To keep things fair, we split the rankings into three brackets: under $40, $40 to $100, and over $100. These rankings reflect how each course played for us on the day, following our experience and using our key areas to rank them.

This post highlights our current top courses across each bracket. The full rankings and breakdowns are available on the website. 🔗 in bio.

We would love to hear where you agree or disagree, and what courses you think we should play next.

Ohope Links ⬇️

Our second stop on our Whakatāne coast trip was Ōhope Links.

In our opinion, this is one of the best links courses in New Zealand. Incredible links land, unreal views, and a layout that makes the most of everything it has. The back nine heads right out toward the coast, with rolling dunes down the fairways and around the greens that just look incredible and play so well.

It is a great layout and a truly special golf course. We have been excited to play Ōhope for a long time, so to finally get out there on such a good day made it even better. This is a course we would happily go back to and play again.

A must play.

⬇️Our first episode of 2026⬇️

We kick off the year with a three part series around Whakatāne, and our first stop is Ōpōtiki Golf Club. Founded in 1918, the course originally started as a nine hole layout before expanding to eighteen holes after the war when the club purchased more land.

The club is now entirely run by volunteers, with a strong contingent who keep the course in excellent condition throughout the year. It currently has over 300 members and costs $40 to play as an affiliated golfer. You can pay by eftpos or bank transfer. There is usually someone around the clubhouse, although not at all hours.

The course itself is a great test. Tree lined throughout, with the toughest hole being the 14th, rightly named The Wrecker. Tall pines run down the right side, out of bounds sits on the left, and you need a very good drive to even think about having a chance at the green.

This series we are aiming to break 60. We have never done it before. A pro and a 24 handicapper chasing the elusive 59.

A new year and a new challenge

We are starting 2026 with three amazing courses as part of our journey to play every golf course in New Zealand. This is our first trip to the Bay of Plenty and a three part series where Stephen and I try to do something we have never done before and break 60.

The series sees us visit Ōpōtiki, Ōhope, and Whakatāne. From volunteer run courses to one of the best links style layouts we have played in New Zealand, this trip had a bit of everything.

We had a great weekend, played some outstanding golf, and saw parts of the country we had never experienced before. These are courses we think people should be going out of their way to play.

The series starts Thursday 1 January at 5pm NZT on YouTube.
