High Country Enchantment

The trails are quiet right now, the hills are getting that winter look, and the Ruahine Ranges are doing their best autumn thing.

In six months, we’ll be back in the saddle for our High Country Enchantment full-day treks — a full day exploring the dramatic hill country of the Rangitikei, with sweeping views and a gourmet picnic lunch.

Not suitable for beginner riders. Only intermediate level and above, minimum age 13, maximum weight 100kg.

Landowners and Farm Managers, thank you

As the 2025 - 2026 season draws to a close, there is a group of people we want to acknowledge who rarely get the spotlight — but without whom none of what we do would be possible.

To the landowners and farm managers of the properties we ride across each season — thank you.

You open your gates, share your land, and trust us to bring riders through some of the most beautiful and private corners of the Rangitikei. The trails we follow, the ridgelines we cross, the views that leave our riders speechless — all of it exists because of your generosity and goodwill.

It is a privilege we do not take for granted. Thank you for another wonderful season.

Winter

We closed our gates for winter on 30 April — but life at River Valley Stables doesn’t stop. The horses are out in the paddocks, the team is working away behind the scenes, and the Rangitikei hill country is settling into winter.

We reopen on 1 November, and we’re already looking forward to what the 2026 - 2027 season has in store.

If you’re thinking about a High Country Enchantment day or a Home on the Range riding holiday next season, now is a great time to start planning. Enquiries welcome — link in bio.

End of Season thank-you

As we close the gates on the 2025 2026 season at River Valley Stables, we just want to say a heartfelt thank you to every rider who joined us.

From the High Country Enchantment days out in the Rangitikei hills to the Home on the Range riding holidays, not to forget the multi-day River Valley Rides — every ride, every connection between horse and rider, every moment out in this extraordinary landscape has been a privilege to be part of.

We close on 30 April and reopen on 1 November. If you’re already dreaming about next season, enquiries for 2025–26 are very welcome over winter.
