🏏 Junior Cricket Round-Up – Saturday, 31st October 2026 🏏
What a fantastic morning of cricket across all our grades! Here is how our teams got on in Round 2:
🦎 Springston Geckos
The Geckos travelled to Irwell to take on LSCC. With 10 players on hand and the opposition slightly short, a massive shout-out goes to Fletcher and Ryder for generously stepping across to play for the other team and ensure a great game was had by all!
Star of the Day: Harry (for great fielding, including a sharp run-out!)
Player of the Day: Arhaan (for some fantastic bowling!)
Result: Geckos 83 fell just short against LSCC 101. Brilliant effort, team!
🌟 Springers
The Springers were back at home for a great match against the Lincoln Galaxy.
Bowler of the Day – Ava Bain: Continued her great bowling form, was sharp and reliable in the field, and chipped in with a strong score with the bat!
Player of the Day – William Sellabanks: Kept his bowling nice and tidy right on target with great action, hustled hard while batting by trying to pinch a run off every single delivery (including picking up a couple of well-earned twos!), and only gave away 2–3 wides.
Awesome work out on the field, team!
🚀 Springston Setbounds
The Setbounds claimed a decisive home victory against Tai Tapu 2a, taking the win 246 to 109! It was wonderful to see all players finding their form with great communication and backing up in the field.
Most Improved: Liam (celebrating a standout first game with a brilliant catch and hitting a four!)
Player of the Day: Spencer (for fantastic fielding and bowling, including a maiden over!)
Special Mention: Jenson, who also locked down an impressive maiden over!
(No team photo this week, sorry!)
🐕The Big Dogs:
On a fine, sunny morning, the Big Dogs played South Malvern Miners at Greendale Reserve. Captain Charlie won the toss and the opening bowlers worked their magic, leaving the Miner’s 2 down for only 23 after 5 overs.
Pressure in the field further restricted the Miner’s scoring. Carter toiled away, making wicket-taking opportunities and striking gold. There were few gems for the Miners here, but plenty for the Big Dogs. Two awesome catches by Olly, another by Charlie, 2 run-outs by Coops, and another by Bailey, who also bowled what is possibly the team’s first double wicket maiden.
Batting honours go to Charlie, with a new personal high score, and shot of the day to George for an absolute pearler of a shot behind square for 4 –magnificent, George!
An excellent team performance, played against a great opposition, where positivity and support for others was there in spades. We dug deep and came out on top this time (200 v 174) and look forward to the next match up.
Star of the day goes to Charlie, and Player of the day to Coops. Well done, fellas!
Well played to all our players and thank you to our coaches, and supporters. Bring on next week!
