Scott, Mr T5, is currently in Wanaka to attend the New Zealand Mountain Safety Council and NZ Avalanche Advisory Southern Hemisphere Alpine Conference, or SHAC as it is often referred to, over the next two days. This is a biennial gathering of avalanche, snow and other industry professionals.

SHAC is the place to be to learn what's new, refresh ideas, listen to industry leading keynote speakers. A great place to network, share beta and catch-up with everyone before Winter kicks into gear!

All courses are run by Scott Walker, Springfield local, a New Zealand Mountain Safety Council (NZMSC) Endorsed Instructor, your local NZMSC Craigieburn Range Avalanche Forecaster and New Zealand Mountain Guides Association Ski Guide.

Porters Alpine Resort is our base and we will be using Porters Lodge as our meet and greet spot and for our presentations for the ASC1 and ASC2.

The beauty of your Dad having a Little Yellow Digger and working on a bike flow track right across the road from your school means that you get first tracks on the newly formed berms and pump humps!!!

Oh...and you get to ride them EVERY day on your way to and from school!!!

When you work in the backcountry, you take what you can get when it comes to accommodation...this week, our abode is the (not so salubrious) Gabriel Hut in the Lake Sumner Forest Park... These little gems in the bush can be super cosy when you get the fire cranking. Thanks to the heli-drop with Jono from Way To Go Heliservices, we at least have decent food and a stovetop for our morning caffeine hit!

We're in here tackling the fallen trees on the Hope Kiwi - Jollie Brook route. The mighty STIHL chainsaws are getting a good workout!

Gosh, this feels like a lifetime ago...Anaconda Track berm resurfacing on our first Little Yellow Digger back in 2013!

9 days after these photos were taken, we became parents for the first time (yip, our daughter is about to (officially) be a teenager!).

So, yip, a lifetime ago in some ways!

We are super-excited and STOKED (with nervous anticipation) to introduce our latest little venture...BC/ED - Backcountry Education.

Most of you know T5 Contracting for our trail and track work...what you may not know is that Mr T5, Scott, is also a fully qualified New Zealand Mountain Guides Association (NZMGA) Ski Guide and New Zealand Mountain Safety Council Endorsed Instructor.

We will be running ski touring courses along with the NZMSC avalanche skills courses. They will all be run at Porters Alpine Resort - our home ski field and one that Scott knows intimately, having worked there for 10 seasons in the Ski Patrol Team. Porters is the ideal venue for this as it provides the perfect combination of terrain, accommodation, food and space the to meet and greet!
