Did you know Rotoiti Lodge has been introducing children to the great outdoors since 1968?

It was the vision of Police Sergeant Noel Oxnam who had a passion for outdoor pursuits and was later awarded the British Empire Medal for the work he put in to creating a space for young people to access Nelson Lakes National Park.

Right from the start, Rotoiti Lodge was a community project - paid for, in part, by local schools and community groups with volunteer labour from community members and local businesses.

For nearly 60 years, children and young people have attended camps at Rotoiti Lodge, making memories and learning skills that can’t be taught in the classroom.

Help us keep that going — another 60 years of tamariki in the wild!

Matariki is the perfect time to star gaze, to reflect with gratitude on the year past and to set goals and intentions for the year to come.

Ka mahuta a Matariki i te pae, ka mahuta ō tātou tūmanako ki te tau.
When Matariki rises above the horizon, our aspirations rise to the year ahead.

Mānawatia a Matariki!

A gift today, an impact forever!
The Lake Rotoiti Outdoor Education Trust Community Group Fund, established with Top of the South Community Foundation, will ensure affordable access to quality outdoor education in Nelson Lakes National Park for generations to come.
For nearly 60 years, Rotoiti Lodge has provided outdoor learning experiences for schools and community groups from the Top of the South and beyond, offering a range of outdoor activities such as tramping, kayaking and cooperative challenges.
We test limits, build skills and create memories.
With your support, we can offer these life-changing opportunities to more children - now and into the future.

Some lessons can't be taught in a classroom.

For over 50 years, Rotoiti Lodge Outdoor Education Centre has been taking young New Zealanders deep into Nelson Lakes National Park. Teaching water safety, shelter building, while building resilience in one of the most stunning settings in the country.

Students arrive as school kids. They leave having tested themselves in ways they never expected.

When schools aren't in residence, the lodge opens its doors to community groups, iwi and youth organisations. They have created a welcoming place for people to connect with nature and each other.

Now, Lake Rotoiti Outdoor Education Trust has established a Community Group Fund with the Top of the South Community Foundation to ensure this vital work is supported long into the future. The fund is new, and every contribution helps it grow. As it grows, so does the impact on young people's lives across New Zealand.
