Kia ora,
Rotoiti Lodge Outdoor Education Centre is gearing up for a busy 2026 and is on the lookout for casual or contract instructors to support us during peak periods. If you’re passionate about sharing your instructional skills, enjoy working with fantastic people, and want to experience what the amazing environment of Nelson Lakes National Park has to offer, we’d love to hear from you. If you have experience with leading tramps, SUP, sea kayaking, abseiling, high-ropes, or adventure-based learning, please reach out.

We have a need for extra instructors over the following days:
• 09-14 March
• 05-07 May
• 17-21 August
• 02-08 November

There may be additional blocks of work on shorter notice throughout 2026 as well.

Kia ora outdoor instructors!

We are after an instructor for a week of work, Sunday 02 - Saturday 08 November 2025!

Come join us on one of our larger-scale school camps.

The ideal outdoor instructor for this fixed-term role will:
- Be able to lead an overnight tramp around Lake Rotoiti (NZOIA bush leaders with experience in basic river crossing and overnight endorsement, or Bush 1 is ideal).
- Be confident with water activities and be able to run watersports activities (SUP & Raft building) after the on-site induction (Raft guide or NZOIA Sea Kayak Leader ideal).
- Hold a current first aid certificate.
- Able to work as part of a team and individually.

Partly catered and full accommodation provided.

It’s been four years since we celebrated our $2.5m upgrade of Rotoiti Lodge Outdoor Education Centre with an open day at the lodge.

Whakatū Rotary’s connection with the lodge has continued through club representation on the lodge’s management board. Club members Trevor Marshall and Murray Leaning have been on the board since the upgrade.

Yesterday, at the lodge’s last board meeting of the year, in St Arnaud, Trevor was thanked and farewelled. Into the very large shoes he leaves to be filled comes Whakatū Rotarian Martin De Ruyter.

Thank you Trevor (left in the photo) for your vision and passion for the lodge. We know your many skills and experience have been put to good use for the further development of the lodge. And welcome Martin (right). It’s great to have another Whakatū Rotarian to further strengthen our relationship with the lodge and manager Russell Ferens (centre).

Yesterday we had our last board meeting of 2024. We want to thank all our board members for their hard and dedicated work. Some of our board members are leaving the Rotoiti Lodge board at the end of this year, and we want to thank them for their commitment throughout the years and their constant support into the organisation.
They were gifted with a beautiful painting by a local artist Jan Thomson at Korimako Studio.

This week was one of our biggest weeks of the year. Lots of prep and hard work goes into a great camp and having a team of instructors that put in the hard mahi and have fun while doing it, makes things epic!

This team was well fed this week by the catering team, preparing a wide selection of nutrisious, yummy and fueling food to keep them going.
