Big day for our Women’s Teams with a bonus Academy game tomorrow at Ray Boord Park! 🩵🖤⚽️

We’ve got a fantastic day of football lined up tomorrow, and we’d love to see plenty of Lakes FC supporters down at Ray Boord Park cheering on our women’s teams.

🌧️ FIELDS CLOSED – FRIDAY 5 JUNE & SATURDAY 6 JUNE 🌧️

Lakes Football Club whānau,

Due to the significant rainfall we’ve experienced this week and the severe weather forecast, Rotorua Lakes Council has made the decision to close all Council sports fields for Friday 5 June and Saturday 6 June.

Unfortunately, this means all Junior and Youth football fixtures scheduled on Council grounds have been cancelled on both days.

While we know many players, coaches, managers, referees and families will be disappointed, the decision has been made to protect player safety and prevent long-term damage to the playing surfaces. Although some fields may look playable on the surface, the ground underneath remains heavily saturated.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience as we work alongside Council to ensure our fields remain in the best possible condition for the rest of the season.

Stay dry and we’ll look forward to seeing everyone back on the field soon.

🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️⚽️ Bike to Footy ⚽️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️

Kia Ora Lakes Whanau,

Our friends at Bike Rotorua are looking to provide some safe parking for your bikes this Saturday if you bike to football.

Obviously the weather is looking a bit dodgy so we will have to watch for cancellations. But it does look like it’ll be a fine day if the fields are open. 🙏🙏🫣

Kia Ora whanau,

We tried to stop the rain by catching some rain clouds yesterday. Just Mist. ☁️

If that joke wasn’t bad enough unfortunately all our fields are closed for today Wednesday 3rd June by council.

Have a good day.

⚽️ WHY FUELING MATTERS IN FOOTBALL ⚽️

A little handy advice and reminder of our promo with our friends at Fueling Youth Athletes

One of the biggest challenges in youth sport is not always training hard enough.

Sometimes it’s simply not fueling properly.

Sports nutrition experts consistently highlight that during prolonged or intense exercise, athletes gradually use up stored carbohydrate (glycogen), which is one of the body’s main fuel sources for exercise.

For many young athletes, especially during long trainings, tournaments, double-headers, or multiple games across a day, having easy access to fuel can become a real issue.

If your child is unusually flat, low on energy, struggling with concentration or skills late in trainings or games, or becoming overly tired and irritable afterwards, sometimes it may simply be that they have not had enough fuel available for the demands of the day.

A lot of athletes bring hydration with them.

Far fewer consistently bring practical fuel/snacks they can easily access before, during, or after activity.

That’s one of the reasons FYA (Fueling Youth Athletes) created the Dual-Fuel Bottle.

The idea was simple:
✔ hydration up top
✔ fuel/snacks below
✔ one easy system for trainings, games, school, and tournaments

The bottles were developed alongside Olympic nutritionist Dr Katie Schofield, and every bottle also includes the Youth Athlete Fuel Guide to help athletes and parents better understand:
• what to eat
• when to eat
• how to fuel around sport

Lakes FC is currently partnering with FYA as part of our fundraiser, and the feedback from athletes, parents, and families has been fantastic so far.

FUNDRAISER PRICING:
• Single Bottle — $79
• 2 Bottle Bundle — $139
• Premium Bundle — $199

Bundle deals include:
✔ $10 off
✔ free shipping
✔ free personalisation

👀👌 Retreating Line 👌👀

A great reminder of how the retreating rule works. Make sure your team know to stay behind the line until one of these conditions are met.
