🦁 Match Day Recap | Rotorua Lions T20 | Round 7 & 8

A tough T20 double-header for the Lions, with two closely contested games that went down to the wire. Plenty of fight, heart, and positives to take forward 💪

Round 7 – vs Geyser Ressies T20
The Lions went down by 21 runs in a competitive encounter.
Our bowlers worked hard to keep things tight, and in the chase the middle order showed great intent under pressure.

👏 Congratulations to Geyser Ressies on a strong performance.

🏅 Player of the Match: Ranga Kuruwita - 32 runs & 3 wickets
A true captain’s performance, leading from the front with both bat and ball.

Round 8 – vs EBOP CC T20
Another close contest, with the Lions falling short by 4 wickets.
A standout innings from AJ Hettiarachchi, who played a superb knock to give us a fighting total, backed up with a disciplined bowling effort.

👏 Congratulations to EBOP CC on their well-earned win.

Despite the results, the boys showed strong character, resilience, and team spirit across both matches.
We head into the Christmas break sitting 5th on the ladder in both formats – T20 and 40 Overs, very much in the fight this season 🦁🔥

🦁MATCH RECAP | ROTORUA LIONS vs GEYSER RESSIES🏏

Congratulations to Geyser Ressies on a well-earned win.👏🏻

It was a tough day for the Lions as we were set a target of 187 on a surface that got better to bat on. Despite a fighting effort, we were bowled out for 151.

With the bat, Ranga Kuruwita led from the front with a positive 39, while Sam Jay (28) and Roshan Krishantha chipped in with valuable contributions.💪

In the first innings, our bowlers showed great heart and discipline, working hard to keep the pressure on throughout the innings.

Plenty of fight, plenty of positives to take forward.

🦁MATCH RECAP | ROTORUA LIONS vs BOP INDIANS🏏

Tough result today for the Lions, but a great game of cricket.

Congratulations to BOP Indians on the win. 👏

Our top order struggled early once again, but Sam Jay steadied the innings with a classy 50, giving us a fighting total. Roshan Krishantha showed real composure with an unbeaten 32*, helping us reach a competitive score.

In the second innings, we didn’t get the perfect start, but once the first wicket fell, our bowlers turned up the heat. The pressure was on, and the boys fought hard with plenty of emotion right till the end.

A brilliant spell of bowling, finishing with 4 wickets and keeping us in the contest.

The team showed great character, and we’ll regroup, stay strong, and keep pushing forward in the competition. 💛💙🦁

What a performance from the boys! After a shaky start losing 3 quick wickets, the Lions roared back with a massive 114-run stand from Nadun Rathnayake and Bandara Yapa, rebuilding the innings in style. Nadun led from the front with a stunning 68 (8×4, 2×6) to set the tone. 💪🔥

Then came the real show — with the ball in hand, the Lions were unstoppable. Nadun tore through the batting lineup with 4 wickets, backed by top spells from AJ Hettiarachchi and Dilshan Perera to finish the job early.
