On the board

Good to get out today for my first look for the new season. Super tough conditions with no wind and no cloud the fish were very spooky so had to improvise with an extra long leader, tapered down to 4.6 lb fluro and really stalk in on them to get the job done … I also find the scientific anglers sonar clear camo fly line a must on days like today, as ordinary floating lines leave a shadow over the bottom and this almost always spooks the fish as they come in to investigate the fly….

A quick reminder to Rotorua lakes boaties about the new rules that come into force on October 9.
If you're aboard a recreational craft 6 metres or under, you need a lifejacket on the whole time you're underway. It doesn't matter what you're in - small motorboats, sailboats, yacht tenders, dinghies, kayaks, paddleboards and jet skis are all covered, if they're under that size.

What an awesome turn out for the opening of the trout fishing season! 🎣

With great weather conditions the Rotorua lakes were pumping with eager anglers!

Our team were spread across the ramps and on the water talking to over 450 anglers for the day. The fishing was tough for some but still plenty of great condition fish being weighed in. The largest being a nice 4.2kg (9.2lb) rainbow caught on Lake Tarawera.

The weekend ahead is looking good so get out there and keep tagging us in your pics!

Tight lines everyone! 😄
