A massive thank you to everyone who shared, commented and called over the movements of the Ute used in the burglary. The power of social media can be incredible

The vehicle of interest has been located in the Tokoroa area as well as one of our bikes recovered.

Below are the pictures of the bikes taken, we would really appreciate it if people shared the post and kept a look out.

If you see any e-bikes for sale that there are no keys with these bikes a dead giveaway they aren’t the true owners.

It is with great sadness that we have to write this post.
In the early hours of Monday morning (20th of February, 2:30am-4:30am) we were broken into, and lost a significant amount of stock including mountain bikes.
To our Rotorua community we are hopeful that someone can help us.
This is the Ute believed to have been used in the burglary, is it thought to be a Mitsubishi L200/Triton and was last seen heading along the SH30. This vehicle may have links to the Tokoroa area.
If anyone has any information or has seen any suspicious activity in the days leading up-to Monday the 20th or can identify this vehicle please don’t hesitate to contact. We would be incredibly grateful for anyone to check cameras on farms along that road or may have seen something. Keep an eye out and we’ll follow up in another post on the bikes that are missing

We recommend you stay out of the forest now and use our other open spaces to exercise

Stay safe out there and be prepared.

FOREST CYCLONE UPDATE FROM DOC
Due to the forecasted arrival of Cyclone Gabrielle, as a precautionary measure, DOC have made the decision to close all DOC tracks and campsites, including mountain bike tracks in Whakarewarewa, Maunga Kakaramea (Rainbow Mountain) and Western Okataina, in the Rotorua District from 4pm THIS AFTERNOON.
This is currently scheduled from 16:00 Sunday 12/02/2023 to 08:00 Thursday 16/02/2023

This will affect the following trails:
• Tuhoto Ariki (MTB and Walking)
• Tihi o Tawa (MTB)
• Hatu Patu (MTB)
• Kataore (MTB)
• Feeder Grade 2 & 3 part of the Whakarewarewa Forest Loop (MTB and Walking)
• Native Black track (Walking)

The forest could be a very high-risk area during the cyclone with high winds (40-100km/hr winds) and lots of rain (50-70mm in 24 hours).
Timberlands will be meeting Monday morning to determine any forest closures and actions. We will keep you posted on any more updates.
Please stay safe and be prepared.

With all the heavy rain we’ve had, and what is still to come we think it’s better to save mountain biking for a nicer day.
We will be closed for hire today and think it better people stay off the trails and let them rest in this weather.

Stay dry out there

We would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas 🎅🏻

📣Planet Bike will be closed Christmas Day🎄
But will be OPEN from Boxing Day all through the holiday period.

So If One of Santa’s elves has taken off with that bike you were certain you were going to get. We are here to fill that gap!

🛠As well as hire, our workshop will be open all through as well, because we know bikes don’t stop breaking just because it’s the holidays.
☕️ Of course the coffee is always on because bikes don’t ride as well without caffeination.

Enjoy Christmas! Eat lots, drink plenty🚰,
And be Merry 🚵‍♂️

Kia ora,

As we move towards the new covid traffic light system tomorrow, we wanted to share an update from the team here at Planet Bike.

We Value all our customers, We want to ensure our valued customers that we will remain true to our values.

Whether you drink trim decaf mocha’s, ride your front brake on your left hand and tell us its the right way round or think Hope 9’s were the best brakes to ever grace a mtb. We respect all people & their decisions. We’re a family owned & operated business and want to keep things as simple as sharing our passion for bikes & the outdoors with all.

We have had to make some calls on how we will operate our business under this new framework. Planet Bike will use the Vaccination Pass for people using our services.
However, if you are unvaccinated we are still able to accomodate you, but things will have to operate a bit differently. Please call ahead to let us know if this does affect you so we can organise an alternate option to still assist you.

Entry into ‘reception’ of the shop is subject to a vaccination passport. As always
