How fortunate have we been in Rotorua having this world class legend on our doorstep over the decades. If you have been lucky enough to spend some time with him you will soon realise his class is not restricted to the game. He is generous and patient with his time and is the ideal sample for any coach looking for examples to steer developing players to emulate.

There will be plenty of deserved accolades coming his way for decades to come. But we can almost foresee his response which will be humbling, grateful and deflecting the attention to those around him. Even the timing of his retirement shows his ultimate team ethos to ensure its not about him. There will be no 'farewell' series or fixture that often players announce weeks out.

Nga mihi nui Kane for all you have done for the game and our region. You and your family will always be welcome in Rotorua.

🗣️🥼🙌👀 Dr Craig Harrison 👀 🙌🥼🗣️

Rotorua is lucky enough to have this man living in our back yard now and he would be worth listening to.

Some local legends at Fueling Youth Athletes did a podcast if you want to hear a bit about him and what he has to offer:

🙏🫶❤️ Rest in Peace Leon ❤️🫶🙏

Rotorua Cricket Association wishes to pay our respects to Leon McKnight and the whole McKnight whānau.

There wouldn’t be many cricketers in Rotorua who haven’t crossed paths and got to know someone in the McKnight whānau over the years.

May your family find comfort in the support and embrace of each other and the community around you at this tough time.

For all those wanting to pay their respects, there will be a gathering at the Rotorua CT Club, as shared by Geyser Cricket in the image below.

🥶❄️🧊 R.I.P Fridge 🧊❄️🥶

Our fridge has officially passed on… it gave its last chill 🥶💀

Before we go hunting for a new one, we thought we’d check in with our awesome community first 🙌

Does anyone have a fridge they’re looking to get rid of (cheap or free)? It would be hugely appreciated!

🌺🇳🇿🇦🇺🏏 ANZAC Day 2026 🏏🇦🇺🇳🇿🌺

Rotorua Cricket would like to remember and honour those who served and sacrificed for our country.

Over 100 years ago at Gallipoli, as 20,000 troops prepared for a carefully planned evacuation, soldiers played a game of cricket at Shell Green — helping create the illusion that life carried on as normal. In the face of uncertainty, cricket provided connection, calm, and a powerful symbol of the ANZAC spirit.

That same spirit lives on today. Through both war and sport, ANZAC nations have always shared a unique bond — fierce competitors, like siblings wanting to outdo each other, yet standing side by side when it matters most.

As a cricketing community, we honour those values of mateship, resilience, and respect.

Lest we forget.

As another summer comes to a close, it is time to reflect on our senior mens Club performances.

Ruakura Central were gunning for a finals spot in the Bay Cup, only to miss out in the final round. A 3rd place is very creditable. They finished in the pack for the T20 and Williams Cup competitions but will be buoyed by the blooding of several school boys into their top team. Dan Ford (559) was their top batsman closely followed by the experienced Stephen Nicholls (540). The attack was brilliantly led by their captain, Andrew Gibbs, who snared 44 wickets with Aaron Bennett next with 27. Youth players to watch next season will be Kadin Young and Jess Russ.

The BOP Bay of Plenty Indian Sports Club - Cricket challenged all comers but couldn't deliver the killer result to propel them into finals contention. Plate winners in the Williams Cup will be some consolation. They were well lead by Lovely Sandhu with 678 runs and also 31 wickets. Faheem Basharat got the most wickets with 33 and had great support from Hritick Sharma (31).

The Geyser City Sports Club team struggled in the Bay Cup but came back strongly in the T20 and Williams Cup. They had every chance of qualifying for these finals, only to be denied in the final round of each competition. Evan Fouche was the best of the batters with 667 runs followed by Sean Gapes with 479. Ravi Yarwood-Paintal was the pick of the bowlers with 31 wickets.

It is fair to say that all teams will feel there were some missed opportunities in the season to push closer to finals spots. This will only enthuse our boys for the following summer.

It was great to see a few Rotorua players recognized with Bay of Plenty Cricket Team selections. This included Lovely Sandhu, Faheem Basharat, Sean Gapes, Cohen Stewart, Cameron Ingram, Ben Astwood and Dan Ford.

Already looking forward to the 2026-27 summer!
